Question installing battery doesn't automatically turn on x50v?

I'm not sure if this is anything (please forgive my "newness"-- just got my x50v a few days ago), but I thought I'd better check around...

In the owner's manual it says "NOTE: The device turns on immediately once the battery is inserted and the batery cover latch is locked."

Of course, when I insert either of my batteries (1100 or 2200) and lock the back cover... it doesn't turn on automatically.

Here's another thing that happened once (I haven't tried it again) that may be related: I charged the axim in the cradle, the power/recharging light on the axim changed from amber to green, but then back to amber. When I turn on the axim to check the battery, the battery gauge is blank. Soft reset doesn't do anything. I take out the battery and then pop it back in, and the battery gauge is reading full.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

By the way, I'm so glad to have found this community (especially yesterday when I was dealing with the whole "motherboard frying" incident... but that's another story! :waaa: )

The same thing happens to me too. My x50v didn't turn on automatically. Also, the manual says it needs to be charged for 8 hours before the first use. However, when I am charging my battery for the first time, the power button turns green after only 1.5 hours. Does it mean it's fully charged? If so, why do I still need to charge it for another 6.5 hours? Thanks in advance!

According to the battery people it conditions the battery and if you don't do that you won't have a very good battery. I have seen a few people here say that this is bull and I am not so sure they aren't right but no one wants to push this and end up with a failed battery. So most are doing 8 hours on the first charge even though the light turns green. As far as the problems you are seeing I think I would do a good backup and then try a hard reset and see if it clears the problem.

I had the same thing. My x50v also didn't switch on automatically.
The battery turning green after 1:30 hour is normal, but you got to keep it charging for at least 8 hours! Otherwise they would've said it different in the manual ;)

Thanks for all the advice.

I'm not sure if I did the full 8 hours the VERY first time, but I read on another thread (http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...8&page=1&pp=25
) that I can recondition the battery, so I'll try that tonight:

I'll also try the hard reset (thanks, Big Dave!)

Another newbie question... so I should also do 8 hours for the 2200 battery as well?

Yes, at least 8 hours. More is always better and you can't hurt the battery, it likes to be charged. But really, people abuse these all the time so if you got anywhere near the 8 hours i wouldn't worry too much about it.

I charged my axim by connecting it outside of the cradle..and it didn't charge. Like im trying at this very momment to turn it on, but it wont turn on. Why is that?

Im now trying to place it in the cradle, but the light doesn't come on. Why is that?

However, when I place my extra battery in the cradle the light comes on?

Ive tried taking out the battery, but its stuck. Has this ever happen to anyone before? And yes I stil have the tab sticking out, but the battery wont come of of the axim when I pull the tab.

HELPPP!!!

First off, the light on the cradle is only for the second battery in the cradle rear slot. it does not come on when the x50 is put on the cradle. The x50 power button is the battery indicator for the x50 itself. It should turn orange when it is first put on the cradle and then turn green when it is fully charged. If it is the first charge, it will turn green in about 1.5 hours but let it continue to charge for a full 8 hours. As far as removing the battery, I have not heard of it being stuck in there that hard. You should be able to grip it on the edge that corresponds the directly below the D in Dell on the back of the case. Maybe you have the ribbon on the wrong side of the battery? It should come out VERY easily even wthout the ribbon.

I reconditioned both my batteries (at least 8 hours), so hopefully that will improve the performance.

However, the axim still doesn't turn on automatically when I insert a battery... does anyone's axim turn on automatically when they insert a battery and lock the door?

Thanks!
