x50v freezing up when turned on - screen black with white lines

My new x50v has started to freeze up intermittently when I turn it on. All I see on the screen is black, with some white vertical "pinstripes". Occasionally turning it off and on again will fix the problem, but when the x50v starts up again like this, the black screen with white lines is initially replaced by a semi-random pattern of black-and-white dots, which disappears as the screen is redrawn. Other times the only solution is a soft-reset, after which the device works fine again.

Any ideas whether this is a hardware or a software problem? Either way I suppose I'll have to hard-reset to see, but I don't look forward to reinstalling all my applications again... Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Software. I see it sometimes when I leave PIE on with MS reader in the foreground and the device powers itself off. Soft resets have always fixed it. Do you have multiIE installed too?

I had this as well I thought I fried it. Turned on Device and Screen Black with Vertical Stripes. Hit the soft Reset button and I got the Blue Dell boot up screen and everything was okay. Its been working fine since though not sure what caused it.

This happened to me the first week I had it. A couple of times. It hasn't done it since. A month later.

Hmm... No multiIE, but I do have Spb Plus, which allows me to do something similar. Have uninstalled Spb Plus and my x50v seems to be running a bit better. I'll post again later on whether or not the uninstall solves some of my WiFi problems.

OMG this started happening to me today. It is so weird. Had the unit for over 1 month and this is the first time. I soft reset and it was ok. Then it happened 2 hours later...soft reset and then fine. I dont want this to be a recurrent thing.

Anyone find an answer yet?

Happens to me too. Just a thought, do we all have either ozVGA or SE_VGA installed, as mine started to happen once I installed one of these 2. Might have been others as well but I wouldn't have expected them to give me any problems as I've used them before.

Enjoy

striped screen of death?

yea, but you gotta put the other arm somewhere. you can either lay on it or shove it in between your bodies; the only other option is to stretch it above your head. but sometimes my arm pops out of socket when I'm sleeping like that. so I was constantly searching for some place to keep my arm, while still laying close to her.
and?
what do you mean 'and'?! that's like a metaphor for a whole relationship.

I had it happen yesterday to me for the first time. A soft reset fixed the problem and it hasn't reoccurred again - yet. Of course it happened when I really needed some info in my Contacts list. I don't have the ozVGA, SE_VGA or Spb Plus programs installed on mine and I don't use IE very much so those programs must not be the cause of the black stripes.

Not me. It happened before I tried OZ_VGA. Hasn't happened again in quite some time now. Here's another possible scenario. I frequently go to bed reading on my X50v. Most days it takes a short fall off the bed onto a thickly carpeted floor. Anybody else have these little dropping episodes?

Hello Guys, I'm brand new here, and received my first PDA 2 days ago: an Axim X50V.
I'd love to present myself better but this is an emergency
After only 2 days, the same problem occurs on my machine, and it's a brand new one, not refurb.
After spending the afternoon to install lots of proggies (incl Sprite wich did a full backup), I finished by the install of the demo version of Decuma Onspot latin 3.0.
Everything was OK but I soft-reset my Axim. And guess what?
I have a white screen with no username, nothing.
And I can't use it.
I've done several soft-resets, and even 2 hard resets: no avail.
When I boot, I can see during 1 or 2 seconds the Dell logo, and after this the white screen, or sometimes the black screen with vertical stripes.
I also installed the SE_VGA and Betaplayer and they worked for 2 days, as well SPB Pocket plus.
Any idea before I call Dell tech support?
Thanks for any input

Edit: what a dumb noob I am: I tried the hard-reset with just the back button and NOT back + On/off
Now it works, and I've restored anything thanks to Sprite.
Great proggie, especially with the compressed self extracting backup in ROM

It seems that I have the same problem, see
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=67421

I had a Handspring Visor before my Axim, which never crashed for about three years.

How can we work with an Axim PDA on travel, without carrying a Windows notebook computer for service? How to use my Axim on travel, if suddenly a hard reset is required?
