ActiveSync Problems? A potential solution!

Good Day All,

I have been lurking for a while and really enjoying the forums. I wanted to let everyone know of a solution I stumbled upon when my ActiveSync recently went belly-up for no particular reason.

The symptoms are:
ActiveSync works fine, but one day the Connection starts as per normal but then ActiveSync stalls at "getting changes" and dies, the error message you get consists of "Synchronization Error"

I tried soft resets, hard resets, syncing with the other computer, reinstalling ActiveSync; all in vain.

After digging through several forums all over the Internet I found one post where removing the SD card solved the problem. After looking at my SD card I found the Journal Bar cache and upon digging found it had several directories all of the same name all nested together. I started counting how many levels deep it was but quickly got into the double digits and gave up. There could have been hundreds in there.

For example:
LHRNDF
LHRNDF
LHRNDF
LHRNDF
LHRNDF
LHRNDF
LHRNDF
LHRNDF

You get the idea. Various file explorers reading the directory tree quickly locked up when you tried to delete the files. My solution was to move everything else off the card, reformat and put it back. Low and behold it works again. I love Journal Bar and highly recommend it but I would keep an eye out for this one. (I have let Omegaone know.)

Hopefully this saves someone the pain and agony of multiple resets, reinstalls, etc.

Have a good one.

Thanks for the heads-up Dewy :approve:
You've saved countless hours of hair-tearing anxiety for hundreds of Aximites.
No doubt the American Psychiatric Association will be sending you a nasty letter...

Dewey...WOW

I had the same problem with activesync and spent two hours today trying to figure it out. Based on your post, I removed the SD card and voila! If I put the SD card back in, the Axim won't complete the sync process.

I am a newbie and as a family doctor I use my Axim to store some medical textbooks on the SD card. They are from Skyscape and have their own reader. When I look at the SD card I have multiple copies of file folders with files and dates that don't make any sense to me. I am unsure of which files to remove and store elsewhere before reformatting the SD card and moving the files back...Any ideas?

I would hope others are reading this too and could contribute

You are the MAN Dewy!!

I had exactly the same issue, but for me it happened when I upgraded to Activesync 3.8. Removing the SD card did the job, but I didn't have the file issues you had. Thanks.

Is this a 3.8 issue?

THANK YOU!!!!!

After spending the weekend reinstalling XP on my wife's computer and fighting wtools, I was really losing it when my X30H wouldn't sync. You saved what little hair I have left.

Is this a problem with 3.8, with the size of the SD memory, sunspots, or just randomness?

By the way, do you know where I dropped my stylus?

Dewey, you da man! I'm glad that I'm too lazy to go through all that while in the same time you solved the problem. See kids, Laziness in conjunction with procrastination can lead to other people finding your problems out for you
