After installing Active Sync - device not detected

I have just loaded a fresh install of WinXP and Service Pack 2, then I installed Active Sync FIRST, before attaching the USB cable from the cradle to the PC, then after attaching the cable I get the error: device not detected, but it shows in the details that COM 1, COM 2, and USB is AVAILABLE. Anyone run into this yet?
I verfified that the USB 2.0 port is working properly on my PC (tested it with another USB device).
thanks for anyone's help in advance!

have you looked in your device manager just to make sure there isnt any kind of conflicts? Tried to restart it, or tried all USB ports. Just some suggestions.

BTW: Edit: WELCOME

I would suspect the XP-SP2 firewall. You can make ActiveSync an 'exception' so it will allow your PPC's connection.
