Memory leak?

I posted the other day about noticing how high my Program Memory is when I checked it under settings. Well, today I checked it after it has been sitting in the cradle all day with only AciveSync running and the Program memory was over 18 MBs. After I did a soft re-set, it was 13 MB which still seems high to me. Now, after only about 5 minutes after the soft re-set the Program Memory is up to 15.25 and again the only program running is ActiveSync.

The programs that I have installed so far are:
Snoopsoft Dashboard main memory
Agenda Fusion main memory
Agenda Fusion Icons Built In Storage
Pocket Music Built In Storage
Magic Button Built In Storage
Adobe Acrobat Reader 2.0 SD card

Should I uninstall everything and then re-install one a day to see if one of them is causing the Program memory to be so high? If so, would the best way to uninstall all at once to do a hard re-set? Or should I uninstall them one by one?

Is 18 MBs in Program memory high? Should I be calling Dell about this? Sorry about so many questions but I'm not sure what to do.

What is your total memory in Programs AND Storage? I would only be concerned if the total memory is going down.

If you do have a leak, Magic Button is your best bet. I would uninstall it then see if you have a leak. If that doesn't work, you can always do a hard reset (back up everything first) then reinstall the programs one at a time, checking each time if you have a leak. Keep in mind that a hard reset is a major step. Make sure you don't lost data you want to keep.

This morning with only ActiveSync running the Storage is 9.31 and the Program memory is 15.51. Is this high for only ActiveSync running? I will just leave it in the cradle and check later today to see if it's changed.

Well mine runs at 14.80 in idle mode so 15mb is very possible and is not caused by a leak...

I know I have the followings running + every little processes from microsoft:

Wisbar Advance 2 + theme
Sbp Pocket Plus 2
Weather Panel + Animated Icons
SBSH iLauncher

Don't forget we're running Winblows on these little thing and Winblows is known, with any version, to be very heavy on system resources.
Also, keep in mind that your background image or any themes you use is loaded in RAM as well... So the bigger the Today background, the more RAM it eats.

To me, 15mb is not a problem.

I would be worried if my available ram would go down to 15mb... Mine is currently at 31mb.

Anyone that has the patience to do this experiment (HW reset.. install one piece of SW, let it sit for part of day, check memory, install 2nd piece of SW, repeat...) would be doing us all a huge favor....

Sadly the O/S is a piece of crap where memory managment is concerned. Even when some programs are properply shut down memory is locked up and can't be used by other pograms till you do a soft reset.

If you've got less than 25MB total left, that's a little low IMO. I have only 32MB free and don't want to go any lower. You might see if there are some programs in RAM you could reload into ROM or a memory card.

I only installed "Today type" programs in main memory. Every thing else is in Built In Storage or on a card:
Snoopsoft Dashboard main memory
Agenda Fusion main memory
Agenda Fusion Icons Built In Storage
Pocket Music Built In Storage
Magic Button Built In Storage
Adobe Acrobat Reader 2.0 SD card

So, should I be moving any of these programs elsewhere??

One thing to consider as well is the Storage / Program Memory slider. You can adjust it to give more memory to program and remove some for storage.

I usually keep mine at the lowest possible setting for storage, that gives me a good 30mb free for programs all the time.

I reset my x50v daily to get around this problem. I purchased Spritebackup and scheduled a daily backup and reboot @ 8:30 every morning.

I'm getting a little tired of this unit and the problems with memory, network card unknown, etc. Perhaps it's time to take my loss and ebay.

I emailed Dell with my Program memory as stated in my earlier post. Here is the response that I got back.

"Thank you for contacting Dell Technical Support.

I have gone through your e-mail and understand that you would like to
know about Program memory.

As you mentioned you have installed some programme install in your AXIM
and are not running when I got the above Program memory number. I would
like to suggest you please perform hard reset.

Note: After hard reset your all installed software will be lost.

In order to perform hard reset, Please visit at following link and
perform steps:

http://support.dell.com/support/topi...en&s=dhs&cs=19

Please check if the steps listed in above link have resolved the issue
or not. Your response to the troubleshooting steps provided above is of
immense importance to me so that I can come to a conclusion as to what
further corrective action or troubleshooting step is needed. I will be
happy to assist you further.

Thank you for choosing Dell."

They never really addressed my question of whether that high a reading on Program Memory is a problem or not. I guess I'm to assume that the tech person who answered me thinks it is if he is suggesting that I do a hard re-set. Oh well, I'm going to wait a few more days and research more before doing that.

Their first reply is ALWAYS a standard reply from a checklist. For a desktop or laptop, no matter what you say, the first answer is always "update your driver".

Heck, I had a laptop that had a completely dead hard drive and wouldn't even boot into windows. The hard drive didn't even show up in the BIOS. The first answer I got back was to update drivers.

You have to reply, and explain again. Only when you get to around the 3rd or 4th reply do they start to use their heads (or ask someone) and figure out what you're talking about.

This morning I did a soft re-set and checked my Program Memory in use which was 13.24 MBs. I have left it unplugged from the USB port with ActiveSync turned off and after 7 hours the Program Memory in use has only gone up to 13.35. This leads me to believe that leaving ActiveSync on is what has made my Program Memory in use go up so drastically. Any thoughts on this?

It doesn't matter what program memory does, what does the TOTAL RAM memory do (program + storage)? Did that 0.11 MB move to storage?
