is it normal for PPC to auto wipe without batt for 24 hours?
hi guys,
i'm having this wierd problem.
yesterday i took batt from my axim x50v and charge it on cradle.
i put the axim unit on case and left it without battery for a day.
today when i put the battery back in, everything is wiped. (contacts, msg, etc all gone)
Yes. Charge the battery while in the device to avoid that. The backup battery only lasts for approx 30 minutes retaining your data.

Just leave it on the Axim and put them both (together, na-tur-al-lyyyyy) in the cradle. :approve:
The BUB is designed to only give you about ~1/2 hour of "survival" time, if the Main Batt goes empty.
............Actually, it's really only there to give you juice to switch Main Batteries.
......which should nominally only take a few seconds.

i took it out because it was late and tired, while the notice keep repoping and making sounds. out of the frustation, i took the batt out and put it on charger.
btw if only 30mins of survival time, what happen when you travel alot and just happen not to have charger/spare batt with ya? you lose all your data?

Yes this is normal, any data stored in main memory is only stored in Ram, Ram needs constant power to it to keep the data. The pda has a back up battery that will hold the data if the battery goes flat whilst you swap or recharge the main battery,(approx 30 mins backup battery life I think). If you save data to SD card or CF card or any other Flash drive this will keep the data, if battery goes flat.
The normal way to charge, is to put the PDA in the Craddle with the battery and charge it. Not Remove the battery. The Battery Charge Socket is for when you have a second battery.

do you install softwares on your CF/SD card?
how about data that you add before you sync to your comp?
the reason i asked this is because i'm worried. since x50v is known to be power hungry... i don't want to lose all work i put in pda and found out that it's poof becoz i forgot to charge it within 30 mins
Make backup to storage card to remedy that problem. Keep your main battery charged full 100%. Mine can hold a charge on battery when its full for over a week without recharging and as long as main battery has power you get no data lost from hard reset caused by loss of power. Of course that is when it is not being used that it last for over a week.
Your battery will tell you when it needs cahrging. If it does, don't use the axim until you charge it. It always maintains a little charge so the back up battery will not have to kick in.
Do you leave your x50v on the desk for a week to try this? Are you sure you need a PPC?
:D
I have managed to go a week without using my ax but I dont use mine as a pda I use it for watching movies and listening to mp3s and surfing the web non of that calendar appointment stuff ever gets used. By the way I have an x5 not a x50 but it should still hold true for both that it doesnt instantly drain your battery if left off for a few days. I know the x5 kicks major butt in battery usage but when not in use both should be comparable.

Waiting for the battery to report it needs a charge is hard on the LI-ION battery. It likes to be kept relatively fully charged. I leave mine on the cradle 90% of the time, just grab it when I need to go to meetings/etc.
