X50 screen is blur with Clear Type enabled?
I just got my x50 and I found it strange why the screen is blurred when I select Clear Type under the Display>ClearType menu. Does anyone else get this? Isn't it supposed to "improve" the screen display instead?

is the whole screen blurry, or just some applications? some programs that have not been updated for vga screen will be blurry with cleartype enabled. but the today screen (for example) should look better with it enabled

The whole screen is blurry slightly. It's not the x50v btw but the x50.

Yes I agree with you. Since the screen is the same resolution as the X30 which I used to own, I will say that Cleartype is complete crap on the QVGA screens. It was horrible on my iPaq 2215, my iPaq 4155, my Axim X30 etc.. On the X50v however, cleartype is very VERY nice. The blur is hardly there, but the softer edges of the text is very nice. I wouldn't bother with Cleartype on any PDA other than VGA enabled PDAs.

I think the exact opposite...
With ClearType the text looks much nicer and smoother than without it, without the jagged edges. It isn't very blurred, you can't even tell that it's blurred, just that it looks a lot cleaner. Not sure why you think it makes it look bad, but I couldn't stand the text without it. It almost gives the text the look of a higher res because it is much smoother and easier to read.

Hmmmm, most, including myself, would disagree with you on that one.

Well I can't stand it as it puts a strain on my eyes.
When I disabled it, everything was sharp and normal

Not sure what 'most' means, but the x50v screen is the first screen where Cleartype looks decent.

Well, maybe it's because you wear reading glasses? Maybe things would be too blurry then :P haha j/k
But ya I tried with and without and I guess you could say it is sharper without cleartype, but I don't prefer the jagged edges, and with ClearType it is a lot cleaner... anyways, it's personal opinion anyways.

Actually...I have always set it to clear type...thinking it would look better. I can't remember how my screen looks without it... Hmmm...

Yep, cleartype actually makes type less clear. I never use cleartype. It does blurr the text, without cleartype, text is much sharper.

Cleartype apparently makes screen less clear when used in Landscape mode- see Tweaks 2k2 help on both QVGA and VGA devices.

Does cleartype consume more battery power?

Cleartype font on QVGA devices such as the X50 (mid) and X30 series will results blurry display for small fonts. For those of u who use a QVGA PPC, have a try on enabling the cleartype and go to calender mode to view the whole year round calender page, u will know what I mean by then.
