I finally got around to contacting Dell about a month ago for this problem on my X50v.
I had been fighting it for several months, then something happened that day and some programs weren't working, so did a hardware reset, having read of attempts to do this to fix the problem. Looked good for the first 5 minutes, then came back. So I "chatted" Dell, and got a replacement.
Note, I had done the postit routine, and it didn't help either.
The replacement unit has worked fine so far, did NOT come with WM5.

ok guys... i am not making any promises, but i took the two sides (vertical sides... the shortest sides) and twisted them in opposite directions (not very hard though..) and then pushed them both back and forth like i were trying to bend it in half.... it seems to have fixed it partially... it is definitely not as bad... but i will update later on tonight....

okay update now... i found that when using the cf slot protector, the screen alignment is not off as much as when it is not in it... which means that if you do not use a cf card or if you use a cfII card, then you should not have this problem.... as far as my research goes... any imput?

Nah, I've bitten the bullet...
Sending my axim off this weekend to PDASmart.com for them to replace the digitizer, not confident enough to replace it myself.
I'll let you guys know how that goes.

okay i have good news and bad news....
first of all, there IS a way to fix your axim.....
now for the bad news....
you have to open up your axim to fix it. just open it up and clean the edges of the screen, and the case, and it will be so much better. there is a post about opening it up here some where

Yeah, I think the problem is so intermittent that it's hard to know what actually does it the most good. I have found that it is worse immediately after bringing the unit out of standby, after the axim has "warmed up" a bit it seems much better. I almost got used to it and was insinctively pressing about a centimetre below where I wanted to go.
Anywhoo, my screen is on it's way to Cedar Park, Tx (wherever that is) to have a shiny new digitizer put on. I'm hoping that this problem was isolated to a certain batch of axims in a certain time period and that my new digitizer will be a non-crappy one that will last for the foreseeable, or at least a couple of years. I have to say that so far soo good and PDASmart.com haven't given me any trouble. It's cost me about £80 UKP to send my screen to America to be fixed by a pro, whereas it would have cost me about £125 UKP to send it about a hundred miles down the UK for the same service... I guess that's worth the wait of an extra few thousand miles?

So I've been having problems with my X50v's digitizer. It is less sensitive in the center of the screen than on the edges, and the alignment is off, particularly in the upper left quadrant. Realignment works temporarily, but I have to do that at least once a day, sometimes 2 or 3 times.
So I "chat" to Dell. They are going to replace it. I then "chat" to their customer care and let them know that I don't want a refurb, as they have only been headaches for me in the past. They said they would send a new unit, not refurbisyed. The trade-off is I have to wait 7-10 business days instead of next day replacement. Since the X50v is no longer advertized on the Dell website, I can only speculate on what "new" unit they are going to send.

i am trying to find a solution, and may have found one... dont bank on it though....
okay guys here it is. when you open up your axim, there is an off white strip on the top and the bottom of the screen, such as in the picture.... what you need to do (try at your own risk) is rub firmly (yet gently) on these off-white stips several times, and then test your axim to see if the screen alignment is any better. it is with mine... i will update as i get results back tomorrow...
(sorry if the pic isnt very good, first time with attatchments....:))

I am wondering if you could tell us how you got them to agree to a new unit. I had the same conversation and have received refurbs twice. I was told they can't send out "new" ones (and this was prior to the x51 release). Thanks.

here's the deal.. i have thought about it and done some research and here's what i have come up with.
1.) you do not have to open it up to fix it:) all you have to do it press down on the top and bottom of the bezel (the black part on the top and the bottom near the screen, but NOT ON the screen) this re-sets or re-calibrates the digitizer.
2.) what happens to the digitizer over time is that is separates from the screen, which causes digitizer malfunction. so by pressing down, it re-connects the screen and the digitizer, thus fixing the problem
so here's the basic overview. just press the top and bottom of the bzel (the black part) before every re-alignment. this is why some had their problem solved by pressing the "a" in axim. just try it.... help me see if it works for ya!:)

Heh. I talked to customer care over the online chat. I also printed out the conversation for future reference, as I'm prone not to believe anything a vendor says until I see it. In this case, I was right. They sent a refurb anyway. :realmad:
I could be upset (I am a bit) about basically being lied to, but the refurb I got is a newer hardware rev than I had, is in better condition, and has a good screen on it with a more solid feel. Sprite Backup allowed me to restore everything (including BIS) in a couple minutes, and I'm actually pretty happy with this thing's operation/performance. :)
So I probably won't complain unless I find a problem in the next few days.
