Well, until just recently I thought I was the only person with a working x50v. Turns out I was wrong, I tried that post-it note trick, it seems to align and work for a little while and then crap out again. This thing is just so finicky. Anyway, I'm about to call Dell but here's my question, anyone who's gotten a replacement recently, has Dell seemed to have fixed the problem or are the replacements still having the same troubles?

Just looked and my replacement (which is still not working right) is an A01. Great job Dell :approve: Send out replacements that you know have the same problem.

Got my 'replacement' on Friday and it is an A01. I guess I have to manually do the A02 updgrade....any gotchas?

I am going to try the post it approach.
I have been good the last couple of days. I thought it was software that I had added (Avantgo and ExpensePro) but lets hope it is just dust. I do keep it in the softcase that was provided. I may have to buy a hard case so that it doesn't apply pressure to the screen.

I'm about to try all the suggestions here, though I'm not sure if my problems are identical.
For me, I am able to correct the alignment problem each time by using the realignment utility (though every now and then I seem caught in a loop, briefly). But the correct alignment never seems to last very long.
Can someone who has spoken to Dell tech support just mentioned whether Dell offered any other suggestions, aside from those already mentioned in this thread?

i had the same alignment problem until i changed my screen protector. I redo it with the given "creditcard" and push all the dust to the side of the screen. Seems to be working fine now. Hope it last longer this time.

Basically when you talk to Dell tech support they tell you to align the screen and then soft-reset. If that doesn't work (which for our problem it wont but I humored him anyway) then they ask you to hard-reset. I basically refused to do this as I need all the data that I keep in my Ax. That's when he said he'd just send me a new one.

No, the hardware revision number on the unit, under the battery is A03 ... not to be confused with the ROM version (which is A02)

While I've only had my replacement a couple of days and only been fiddling around with screen protectors in the last 24hrs I'd like to add something.
After screwing my first writeshield C2, I had better joy with the second. What I noticed very quickly was that for anything handwriting recognition related it was hit and miss. Not terrible but not right either.
After searching through the forums and the reading up on this and related threads I was a bit concerned I'd got a unit with an alignment problem.
So I took the writeshield off and tried both Word and Notes again, this time it was bang on, no problems, using light touches as not to cause any unwanted scratches.
Put the writeshield back on...unfortunately bathroom option wasn't available, so it took a lot of trial and mainly error. Anyway, the problem was back and was as clear as before.
Therefore, from my limited experience I'm wondering how many of these issues are protector related and how many are genuine faults.
Something I would like to discover is whether certain brands of protector are more prone to causing this than others. Furthermore, is it protector type related? Do the crystals with their presumably smoother top surface make it more difficult to get accurate stylus stroke recognition than the anti-glares?

Just got my x50v today, and was excited to wait for it to charge completely. But guess what, I cant get it to align for the first 10mins. Then when I finally got passed that part, I cant click on certain parts of the screen, so I tried aligning and its the same crap. I love using landscape mode with my x30h so I tried switching to that, and aligning and its worse than portrait. I couldnt scroll up or down in IE. This bums me out because I paid extra just to get this thing instead of going through dell, and now I have to get the warranty transfered so I can get a replacement. Honestly I wished I never bought it, my x30 works like a champ. Blah sorry had to vent.

Another one bites the dust!
I have had my X50v for about a week and the alignment just went bad yesterday. I tried the same kind of stuff that has already been posted here with Dell support (via chat service) with no luck. Dell wanted me to do a hard reset, so I backed up my data and did the hard reset. Now the unit is completely unusable as it is permanently stuck in the screen alignment loop. Neither cycling the power, nor a soft reset, nor a hard reset gets it past the screen alignment loop. Dell is shipping me another unit (they said it would be a new unit). I love the X50v, but based on all the problems and no word from Dell that they really have a problem that they intend to fix I am tempted to return it. Does anyone know how long you have to do a return - I thought I saw 21 days, but I am not sure and wonder if that is from when you received it or invoice date? What comparable (price & features) alternatives are there to the X50v?

After one week, my digitized started doing the "heart monitor" thing, too. After not being able to contact anyone at Dell via phone, I emailed them back and forth a couple of times. Tried all the stuff they recommended with no luck. Sure enough, within just a couple of emails, they have issued a call for a replacement unit.
I think I will give them another chance, even though I've read on this board that some of the replacement units are faulty as well, or that they are replacing them with used ones.

I am having the same alignment problems on my Toshiba E830. Also, it seems that owners on the Ipaq HX4700 have this problem too. Seems like this is happening to all VGA devices.
I came to these forums to see if my problems are common with the Axim since I want to get rid of the Toshiba.
Now I am considering getting another X30. I'm not willing to put up with these kind of problems with my PDA.

Same problem here
I might return mine and ask for my money back, since lots of people are having the same problems even after receiving a new unit from dell.

I, too, am having major problems. Have owned mine for two months. I initially thought it was the screen protector. My concern is that a new one isn't going to fix the problem. Any word from Dell on this?
