Well I bought the wife the x50V and set it all up for her. Bought her a GlobalSat BT-338 and went to set it up for her. Noticed the screen was out a bit when tapping an item (down about 1/4"). Asked the wife if she noticed it, she said yep, thought it was just her and didn't want to bug me. So I go into the realignment screen and it does not work...got frustrated and turned it off for a while and came back, well screen alignment worked :)

A while later the alignment is out again and there is the updated A03 just released. Install the updated rom, usa the x50V and after awhile the alignment is off again :( Well i guess tomorrow I call Dell to get a replacement.

Of note, the hardware revision is A03...and I really like the x50V (as does the wife), possibly more so than my Toshiba E830. Hopefully Dell has a real fix, however from reading here I don't have much faith!

Well I called Dell tech support. My 21-day waarrenty thing is over but apparently I have a 1 yerar warrenty as well. I told them the touch screen was having problems and that it wasnt very tight (i.e. large gap between top and bottom layer) and they immediately said they're gonna replace it. I'll c a new one in 24-48hrs .

Similar problem here, called Dell and requested warranty replacement last Sat. On Tues 2 replacements arrived...I picked one and sent the other back. Another good customer service report here. Dell's not perfect but they are good. I'd certainly buy another dell. Oh on my new x50v ...hardware A03 and software A02. I immediately installed A03 and everything seems well.

On to Axim X50v #3

#2 failed within 2 weeks. It was hardware A01 and Rom A02 but ran fine for almost two weeks exactly.

I stayed away from running the cpu high, I did not use a screen protector and used several batteries, I carry the unit in my pocket, but that is what is is made for right?

#3 is on it's way. I will let you know if I find anything out.

But, just out of curiosity, and think really hard, did anyone drop their X50v? I think that I may have dropped both units shortly before the digitizer problems started happening. They were both 2-3foot drops but this is the only correlation I can still see. Even this is not certain, but I am thinking of a jolt powerful enough to send the SD card flying. I am tending to think that the problem is with the digitizer's connection underneath the plastic housing. I found that pressing along the outside edges of the unit may get it to work for a day or so. Anyone have any idea how the digitizer is attached under the plastic?

Another side note, DO NOT TRY TO FIX ALIGNMENT ISSUES by pressing harder on the screen. I applied a "little-more-than-usual" pressure and the screen cracked. I have never had a screen crack before (used to have an Ipaq 3850 and 5455 and am sure that I applied more force than this on those units. I think the X50v screen is much more delicate.

On the complete care issue, it is NOT possible to upgrade to complete care after the initial purchase according to my service rep today -- Suzanne.

Okay, got the replacement Axim. Got the Brando Screen protectors. I have to say I am now a faithful Brando user.

I have purchased Nu-shields (slide to much),

boxwaves (worsened the screen alignment problems),

Insipio. (Cheap, not clear)

Transparent copy pages (cut to fit) Just like nu-shields.

Anyway, I installed the Brando's with the steamy bathroom technique. They fit well, all the edges lay flat and it's clear and no screen alignment problems. Finally, I have to say that the boxwaves seemed to work okay after I get the replacement axim but I still hate the lifted edges. So brando wins my vote. GET the Brando

I'm on my third x50v, and they all have this problem. Extremely frustrating. My first one developed it within a few weeks, but before I could return it, I smashed the screen on the corner of a table (it was in my pocket). They said $250 for a refurb was the best they could do. Nice.

So I bought a second one, I'm going to sell the first one on eBay. The second one developed the problem within a week or two. I called them, they sent out a third one. I've been using this one for about a week and now it's doing it as well. It's becoming a real pain to reload my software all the time. And it's a real pain when you want to use your PDA during a meeting, and you can't because the digitizer is all F*ked up. The hardware revision of my newest one is A04. I'm getting sick of this company.

Rob, Have you tried the post it under the bezel trick? I returned my first one and my second one started to act up after I had it about four weeks. I thought "Here we go again." I did the post it note thing very thoroughly and have not had a single problem since. Try it, like you I hate the shipping back and forth and re-load thing.

Hi, I am like other one having screen alignment issus. I just got a replacement (refurbish)yesterday, and I restored all my programs using sprite backup, I am having the same problem like the last one. and it's worst than the last one I got. I just want to know if you guys restored your programs and it worked fine, or you guys did a flash install for everything?

I am thinking if it's a defective device or there are programs conflict. The truth is, I have had the very same programs there for more than a week without problems, and I haven't installed anything for a month since the screen alignment problem appeared. (and it never went away). I am now in the middle of either getting another replacement or start flash again see if the problem goes away, this will take my whole day and I don't really have time for this.

And yeah both of my device are A03 hardware version and the problem appearing on the first one probably about 2 weeks after I upgraded to ROM A03.

Thanks

this is the "heat beat monitor I got for the first one"

so just reporting back. I was looping in the alignment screen, and once I took off the screen protector, it worked! I tried it before on my first X50v with no luck. My replacment is alright for more than 4 hours now, my problem should be solved. (I am using Brando screen protector by the way)

I just got an X50v last week (purchased refurb from ebay). Screen alignment problem showed up within a couple of days. It's A03 hardware and I upgraded BIOS A02->A03.

Chatted with Dell today. The tech asked only two questions and then asked for my shipping address to send me a new Axim.

We'll see...

I'm starting to think that these x50v models, for some reason, are more prone to dust than prior models. Does anyone out there think that is possible?
