I think that it's possible. I had my x50v and had very irritating alignment problems. I kept thinking that it was the screen protection. That had nothing to do with it. I was re-aligning about 4-5 times a day, rebooting, changing software. Nothing worked. Finally, dell sent me a new one with the latest hardware and I upgraded to the most recent ROM. A03 i think. I had this new one over a month and not a single re-alignment. Don't drive yourself nuts. If you have constant alignment problems get a replacement if able. Also I switched from boxwaves to brandos. (Both clear) The brandos edges stay flat and I must say they are the best. Get the Brandos. Hope this helps someone.

I got my Axim X50v last Wednesday, and I too appear to have alignment problems. The top right corner is slight out of alignment (most noticable when in true VGA and landscape). I have to click on the bluetooth icon to access the Wifi properties. Also about .25 inch top middle, there's a small semi-circle that forms when I move the stylus in a straight line across the screen. Luckilly both are in places where it's not too detrimental to usage. I'm worried that if I get a replacement that it'll end up worse than my original.

I assume this problem is only with the x50v and not the x50. Is that correct?

I currently waiting for my first x50v to come in and I was wondering is the better screen really worth all the hassle or should I think about returning it and get the x50

I've had my x50v for about three weeks, and developed serious screen alignment problems yesterday. I checked out this forum thread and decided to remove the SP and clean around the screen edges.

I think my problem was related to my screen protector. While deciding what brand to purchase for the x50v, I had decided to use a Belkin SP from a supply I had on hand for my Tungsten E. It wasn't a perfect fit, but it was workable. Never had a problem using the SP on the palm, but I guess the x50v generates more heat, because when I pulled off the SP, ther was a god-awful amount of sticky residue all over the screen. So much so that I had to use a computer screen cleaning spray to remove it. Residue had never appeared on the Tungsten.

I use a magnesium case, which gives a nice snug fit. I'm wondering if the magnesium retains heat more than the leather cases. I've never noticed the unit being particularly warm to the touch, but I'm generally only touching the case.

The experience helped me decide on ordering a Brando SP, because it was described on the site that I ordered it from as "non-adhesive." I was also checking out the Boxwaves, but saw a review that mentioned them having a "non-tacky" adhesive. I hope these descriptions are literal, because I want to try a SP with no adhesive at all.

When it comes to screen protectors, I started off with these generic POS's from bestbuy that I had to cut down to size. Biggest mistake ever. They were awful. I destroyed half of them just trying to make them the right size while keeping the edges straight (much more difficult thatn it sounded at the time). So when after I had my exchange approved by Dell, I ordered a Boxwave ClearTouch Crystal. This thing is absolutely wonderful. If you get dust under in when applying it, take it off with scotch tape, or rinse it under water. Also, afer applied I can barely tell that they're there. It's the bes screen protector I've ever had. :)

Welllllll...put me down for 1/2...lol
I got my X50v about 2 1/2 months ago, and have had very few problems with it. I have an extended battery from Mugen Power, and a screen protector from whichever company offers a choice of 'crystal clear' or 'anti-glare'. I use the clear one, as I'd heard the anti-glare version can make the VGA screen appear less sharp, or somesuch. I have a handful of games installed, and in the last couple weeks or so, I've noticed the mistapping problem...but only VERY rarely (once a day, tops). I have the A03 hardware, and upgraded from A02 rom to A03, shortly after that was released. I think that my problem might be more related to the screen protector, as it only happens on certain parts of the screen, and NOT causing accidental program closings, like many people have reported.
On the other hand, I've been having a different problem in just the last few days, where my Axim will turn itself off, spontaneously. This only occurs when on battery power, and never on AC power. (will post this as a separate post, as I've been unable to find anything worthwhile using the forum search)
Just an observation, but it seems, based on comments in these and other forums, that Dell's support, as well as quality control are both highly inconsistent. The only offset to this is that Dell, in all but the worst scenarios, seems to at least TRY to satisfy their customers. Just the fact that they actually keep sending out multiple replacements, rather than trying to blame the customer for doing something wrong gives me quite a bit of faith in their dedication. Hopefully (knock on wood), my current problems will fade, and I won't have to find out firsthand.

Two more hypotheses:

1) Seems to happen more when "hot"?
2) Seems to happen more after playing games in landscape mode?

Thoughts?

Might sound dumb, but did you try realign the screen ? after more than 2 month, it might be a good idea.

The problem that I have is that the unit *won't* realign, at least very easily. When it happens, I have to clean around the edges, then do the "Align Screen", sometimes as many as 10x, then if I get stuck in the "alignment" loop (never gets out of the "align screen" program), I soft-reset and try again. That usually fixes it.

Like many of you, after only a month or so of use, my x50v digitizer is whacked out.

Edit: Cleaning under the bezel with a post-in note (sticky material helps?) finally fixed it. Waiting for the problem to return... kind of hope it does, kind of hope it doesn't.

Started happening about a week ago. A quick re-alignment, and it was better. Now that doesn't fix it anymore. It gets stuck in the 'Align Screen' mode (after 10+ attempts). Used screen protectors since Day One. Currently have a Brando and I'm about to take it off.

Suggested solutions:
  • Run credit card around edge (under bezel) to clean out dust
  • Press to right of power button to see if it helps
  • (last resort) call Dell for a replacement

Quick Test to "Prove" You're not Going Insane:

Open up a drawing program and draw a straight line. There have been some "heart chart looking" results. Or a new Note and use Transcriber.
My alingment proplem is that the taps are recong. about a half inch lower and to the right, sometimes. I've noticed a slight bulge (kinda) at the lower left corner . It has been there since day one. I should probably send it in for repair/ exchange?????

I've also had the exact problem you're describing. I had read all of the threads and it was the aximx50v I had. I had to realign every hour and reset constantly. I would also get stuck in the never ending alignment. I finally got a replacement and I haven't realigned in over 3 months of use. I use my axim many times every single day. Get a replacement if able.
