Having Screen Alignment/Digitizer Problems?

UPDATE: Some users have found relief to the problem by a new method outlined in the last few posts....

Seems like a bunch of us are in the same boat.

Like many of you, after only a month or so of use, my x50v digitizer is whacked out.

Edit: Cleaning under the bezel with a post-in note (sticky material helps?) finally fixed it. Waiting for the problem to return... kind of hope it does, kind of hope it doesn't.

Started happening about a week ago. A quick re-alignment, and it was better. Now that doesn't fix it anymore. It gets stuck in the 'Align Screen' mode (after 10+ attempts). Used screen protectors since Day One. Currently have a Brando and I'm about to take it off.

Suggested solutions:
  • Run credit card around edge (under bezel) to clean out dust
  • Press to right of power button to see if it helps
  • (last resort) call Dell for a replacement

Quick Test to "Prove" You're not Going Insane:

Open up a drawing program and draw a straight line. There have been some "heart chart looking" results. Or a new Note and use Transcriber.

Alignment off

Add me to the list of affected users. my PDA thought I was tapping about a quarter inch below where I really was tapping.

The Screen Align program just seemed to loop forever.

I did the post-it suggestion, and I am back on target.

1st X50v had Alignment problems

The 1st X50v I received had digitizer and endless alignment loop
problems. I was using a Boxwave Crystal Clear SP at the time.

The 2nd X50V I received did not have the problems, But I received
it right after the A02 update came out and applied it immediately.
I've since put the Boxwave on my 2nd X50v and it's fine, screen
wise. I do have the Unknown card WLAN problem and not being able
to use BT when the WLAN is on, which my 1st X50V did not have.

I applied the A02 update to the 1st X50V before I sent it back. It
seemed to clear up the digitizer problems, but I never tried it
with the Boxwave Crystal SP on it.

I still like the X50v, but I'm dreading dealing with Dell CS in
India again in order to get unit #3.

Cool Getting replacement Ax due to alignment problems

I had the alignment problems too and couldn't resolve the issue after trying all the fixes offered in the forum. Used Dell Tech Chat to troubleshoot and they are sending me a new unit. Should be here in 3-4 days according to the rep. The chat online went way better than trying to get anything done on the phone with Dell tech support. Hope the new ax is bug-free. I love this thing and don't miss my Palm TH-55 at all! :approve:

Bah, My replacement X50v is having the same problems as the first. Dell's troubleshooting isn't helping, so put me down for two. :rolling:

Put me down for a 2x as well. I tried the sticky note thing and no change. If I have as much trouble with customer service as I did the first time, I'm just going to get a refund and buy an Asus.

Yep, I had the same problem. Pushing down over the A in Axim helped, but mine would also register random stylus presses on the right side of the screen in the same spot, which drove me nuts. My new unit (#3) just arrived today. Cross your fingers....

Well my 'new' unit arrived yesterday, but came with scratches on the screen so I'm working on #4 now. :realmad:

Yeah, I'm having serious issues w/ mine. I can't get out of programs, it hits above or below my target, locks up many times, won't access switcherbar, hit on the startmenu and the clock comes up... this thing is whack! I called tech support and they told me to call customer care to get a new replacement or he can send me out a refurb(?) ASAP. I really thought I was going bananas. I hard reset it and got hung up in the screen alignment process so I powered it down and it worked good for a while (minutes) and then crapped the bed again.

...and I haven't even paid for this thing yet! I've got it on evaluation (along with an x30 high).

Maybe this issue is worthy of a poll as well... I went through all the other threads as well and does seem fairly common!

Another for the Boat

Man - I'm glad to know that is just isn't me. You would think with all the posting in here that Dell would see that it is a problem.

I am going to try the post it approach.

I have been good the last couple of days. I thought it was software that I had added (Avantgo and ExpensePro) but lets hope it is just dust. I do keep it in the softcase that was provided. I may have to buy a hard case so that it doesn't apply pressure to the screen.

Was bad now okay

I also was stressing too, but it's come right now-
It seemed like the calibration went awry whenever i went into landscape mode.
It came right after I did an alignment in landscape mode.
I'm using se_vga permanently now (been fine for a week now).
hope this helps!

Hardware Revision number?

I got my replacement unit sometime last week and I have had no digitizer issues with it so far. I also used CHAT rather than Call and sit on the phone for hours. :rolling:

The only difference I noticed between this one and my original was the hardware revision number next to the service tag under the battery.

My first Axim was A01. The replacement I just got is A03.

Am I correct in assuming this indicates they have made some hardware changes on the unit??

Screen alignment Infinite loop

I've seen this problem as well. Although I don't know of a way to avoild the problem in the first place, I did notice that you can get out of the screen alignment loop by cycling the power button.
