Solutions for the A02 Rom update?

I understand many people are having the issue that their USB connection drops right before update. I too am having this issue, just received my X50V yesterday and have been trying anything to get it working.

Has ANYONE had success overcoming this issue? I'm not asking if anyone has updated, because I know that people have, but I'm wondering if people have come across the issue, then found a resolution for it.

I think this is the best approach to analyzing the problem for a solution. Thanks for any help.

Someone mentioned that they tried one computer and got the error. Then they moved to another computer and it worked fine. You might want to try the same thing.

Also, make sure your USB plug is plugged directly into the computer, and not a hub.

People have been posting that they have problems even after they "successfully" install the update.

I'm waiting until Dell issues another one. There's nothing so seriously wrong with ao1 that you need to upgrade, IMHO.

Joss Stone is in all the pictures of the Axim X50v (see "MyPDA") why didn't she have a single or two from that album pre-loaded into the "MyMusic" folder to get people listening to her music?

Does anyone have some Ibuprofen? It's painful to be this smart.

I remember someone mentioning to turn off SP2 firewall if you're running WinXP.

I used to have a constant issue with the BT error about lack of memory. It would always require a soft reset anytime I wanted to use BT on the Axim. Now I can fire it up, and switch on the BT and not get the error. This is with the Axim showing 13-20 megs program memory free. Granted, I did get the error one time, but it's only been once. It used to happen every single time I needed bluetooth, using A01. I'm constantly switching BT on to connect to my phone for GPRS internet connections. Also, my Wi-Fi problems have disappeared. I used to have this stupid issue where I'd connect to my home network and establish a connection, and then later connect to my work and establish a connection. Then, when I got home, it would always give me an error about not being able to find the DHCP. It would work fine at work, but no longer at home. I'd have to delete both SSIDs from the connections listing and start over. That problem is gone with this new ROM update. This update has been nothing but good for me!

It's possible that you have an issue your PC USB ports. Who is the maker of your PC motherboard?

I haven't had any problems as of yet. I did do some reading before i upgraded to A02. What I did was turn off my firewall (after turning off my wireless connection), turned off my antivirus, and did a direct hookup to the usb port on my comp (i've got a USB hub.) Everything went smoothly. I will admit that the screen sensitivity is greatly improved. Cheers.

Ok, installed successfully :approve:

Have barely used it, but it's running fine so far.

Disable Password on Axim
Backup all files
Backup ROM
Uninstall all programs
Remove SD Card
Plug USB directly into port
I'm running Win2000 SP4
Turned off PC Wi-Fi
Closed all PC programs except ActiveSync
No firewall/antivirus

My previous unsuccessful try was on my roommate's computer running WinXP and god knows what else.

I'll give my opinion of A02 sometime soon.

p.s. However, my internal speaker still doesn't work. I started a thread on this - this is a hardware issue?

Have just updated to A02 ROM. Did search of known issues before applying and main problem of USB dropout occured because USB hub being used. (Note: Direct Laptop USB ports also suffered from dropouts).
Was recommended to plug cradle directly into motherboard USB port.

However, also saw POST's that suggested there is a power prob with the USB cradle that can blow motherboards. Was suggested to use HUB as easier and cheaper to replace.

LOL.

Did upgrade OK on Motherboard USB. Moving back to shared USB hub.

Don't know if above helps?

My USB disconnected, but I waited (as per instructions) for about 5 minutes and it reconnected and the update continued - no problems with install.

Nothing fantastically good or bad to report... Aside from the wifi power button, I don't notice any difference.

However, I didn't re-load all my backup stuff. It's nice to get a fresh start, but otherwise ->

Wouldn't mind WinMobile2005 free from Dell when it comes out Not bloody likely.
