New on site, have a problem with getting X50v hooked up to wireless network.

everyone,

I am new to the aximsite and my new Axim x50v and I have a question if you don't mind answering. I know there must be many forums on this topic, but this site is so big that I don't have the time during the day to search for all of them:rolling:, so I any feedback would be appreciated.

1. I have a wi-fi problem, everytime I try to hookup to a wireless network I can never seem to get it constantly connected. This morning I was in my office at my college and the wi-fi in the hallway was on and the Axim picked it up without a problem.

Then in the night time I tried to establish the same connection, but the antenna icon could not pick up the feed. The signal strength was normal, but the arrows on the antenna icon just kept blinking, never steady, no matter how many times I clicked on "CONNECT."

Then the night before I tried to establish a connection in my college library, but then it said that I needed a proxy server (which I have no idea what it is).

Then the NIGHT BEFORE THAT, I tried to hook up at a starbucks wireless network and it said that I needed to first establish a modem or VPN connection in settings. (But if it is wireless, doesn't it pick up all that information automatically? It did it at my office.)
I spent so much time in there just trying to hook up a connection that the battery ended up draining on me, leaving me pissed without a solution

This is so discouraging for me because I love my x50v, but the difficulty of getting it connected to a simple wireless online network is just so hard. This is the one feature that I wanted the most when I first bought it and now I can't seem to get it working right.

I would appreciate any and all advice that can help me get my Axim X50v online and working. I thank you all in advance. :)

For places like Starbucks, the VPN means you need their logon info. You may have to ask the cashier for the info.
First thing to try is:
"all i did was click the signal bar on the lower right corner and you see where it says power mode. Change it from Auto to Disable and I swear everything was fine. To all haveing problems try this and see if it works" from the Dell forums.

From the Dell site, a tip on repairing the connection:
http://support.dell.com/support/topi...ent?dn=1077392

Also, make sure your Axims name is not something with an underscore "_" (like "pocket_pc) the "_" character may cause spotty connection problems. I think this is no longer a problem though.

The link seems helpful thanks, but when I go into programs in step 7 I don't have an icon named dell client. Is there a progrma I'm supposed to download first?

I am not sure if this will help or not, but go into Dell WLAN and to settings and where it says My network card connects to: You will get a choice of Internet or work. Try changing to the other one.

Hello.....my x50v has been working fine since November. I just used wifi capabilies extensively for the past 6 weeks of traveling. Now, I'm back home and get a connection error. My home router and firewall are the same. I had read of this problem before, and cannot find how to fix it.

Anyway, I stumbled on this note. I tried the Dell procedure.

I do not have the Dell Client icon.

How do I get to Network Troubleshooting option and repair as described?

and....is there some other remedy for my problem....do I need to do a hard reset? Soft did not work.

I would check your firewall settings again. Or better yet turn it off and give it a try. I had a problem when the IP address assigned to my Axim by the router changed and then the firewall begin blocking my Axim. Good Luck~

You might need to reset your router...I had nothing but problems when I first got the x50v, finally reset the router, redid the settings and everything works better than before-no matter which network I get on outside the house-
