can someone please recommend me a wireless router that is reliable and better than this D-Link
thanks

I have the DI-514. No problems here. I've used it with my X3i and now my X50v. It's cheap and works well!

I use WEP on the 514. Without WEP, all firmware vers work. With, only v.1.00 works for me. Can't remember which HW rev. I use short preamble. I had trouble w/ competing networks. Changed channels and now it's smooth(er) sailing.
Others have reported working well w/newer firmwares. YMMV.
i have a d-link di-524 and it is GARBAGE and i wouldnt recommend d-link to ANYONE :)
mine disconnects/reconnects the wireless in about 2 minute intervals, among a ton of other problems that thing has
Sounds like you need to disable Power save mode and uncheck "Disable WLAN to save battery power..." in the WLAN utility on your Axim wireless card, rather than toss your perfectly good router out the window...

I have similar problem with my DL-624. My PC keeps poping up a little bubble at the bottom right hand corner saying
" network cable unplugged". I've tried using new cables, even got a new network card and still have the problem.
Anyone know of any setting I may be missing, either on my PC or the router, that will help with this problem?

That's strange, did you possible clone a MAC address or something? Here's what I would recommend:
Back up your router's setting
If you've not upgraded to the latest ROM revision, do so
"Hard Reset" the router by pushing a thumbtack into the little hole on the back of the router, hold for 5 sec. and release
This will give you a fresh start, and if it doesn't drop connection, then you know it was something in the configuration.

The 624 has more features, the biggest being "Extreme G, 108 Mbps" mode. For general use the 524 is more than adequate. They are both b.g routers. I've installed and configured both, and as I've said, I've never had an issue connecting my Axim to a D-Link router, and I configured all of them.
Feel free to check out a doc I put together on configuring the Axim and D-Link routers to work harmoniously. These are the settings that I've used for over a year, and have yet to have a problem :)

i like how everyone just assumes user incompetence any time they report a problem...
ive always had that option disabled, ive tried with and without it enabled, and ive connected to numerous APs with my axim with a variety of different settings just fine.
this router really is a piece of garbage, its fairly well known, if you search for it on google youll get tons of reports of problems with it. d-link has actually released a "rev C" with a hardware change and a new firmware, so if yours works fine its probably one of the new ones. old owners are still SOL.

I had the 514 also and mine gave me nothing but fits. I would drop both my Ax and Laptop at least a couple times and hour. I have had several differnt Wi-Fi options in the past and know how to configure the stinking things, so I'm pretty sure I got a lemon. The sell this model all over Shanghai, so I picked it up cheap. It cost me in time and frustration in the long run.
I went and bought a Linksys and both the laptop and the Ax have worked great ever since.
I have the DI-624 version C. It has worked great for a year. Then I made the mistake of updating the firmware. It crashed the thing. I spent 4 hours with tech support trying to get the old firmware reloaded. Should have left well-enough alone.
D-Link was great about it, they offered to replace the router. Finally got the old firmware back on and it seems to working, OK. Although my kid complains about his connection every now and again, to bad as long as mine is working.
