"Baggy" X50v Screen?
I just received my X50v and the screen seems "baggy" in the middle.
I can actually feel the space between the screen and the touch overlay (not a screen protector). It is tight on the corners and I can feel no play, but in the middle of the screen it feels like the space is at least 1mm. It seems to function normally, but it is rather weird feeling. What I'm trying to say is when I put my stylus on the screen in the middle, it first touches the overlay and then I can keep applying preasure until it touches the LCD. Is this normal? On my X5 the screen feels the same with no noticible gap between the touch overlay and the screen below.
I'd appreciate any input.
thanks.

Sounds like a defect. As far as I know, there's no noticeable difference between the layers. A light tap anywhere is the same as anywhere else on mine. If you've got otherwise, it sounds like it's a problem.

I agree about this might be a defect... I would suggest that you call Dell and request a replacement. If you get any flak and are less than 21 days get your money back.

I have, I think, the same issue. It's a very, very slight differentiation between the touch on the outer screen layer and the inner.. very slight but you can notice it. it is more noticeable toward the center and not noticeable on the edges at all.
This is my second one, The first one had HUGE problems with the display.. lines everywhere.. I've been using it for about three weeks. I'm past my 21 days so anything they send will be a refurbished unit.. so, I think I'll just ride this one till it founders. The issue isn't a real bother..
Does Dell do ANY quality control?? sheesh.. this is my second Dell Axim. X5 first and now the X50v.. the overall quality on the two year old X5 was far superior.. far far superior.
If you do call Dell let me know what they say about it ok? thanks.

I also have a similar screen with a "squishy" middle, and I am also experiencing the flaky digitizer referenced in the sticky thread about screen alignment problems. I wouldn't be surprised if they were related.
I would also suggest you get a replacement Axim. Unfortunately I must wait until Dell receives the first Axim I returned (dead pixel) and get the warranty transferred to the new one before I can try to get it serviced/replaced.
I hope Dell simply received a bad batch of screens, because they are probably losing money shipping so many replacements. Hopefully they can get these problems fixed.

I just received my new x50v. I think I have the same "baggy" screen?
I had a compaq 2100. the screen on it was just like glass. (not squishy)
my x50v is squishy! My question is....with the plastic/goo/glass combination...should it be squishy??!?!! to me is seems like it should!!??! But, this is my first "real" pda. so HELP! Thanks!!!

Here I go... off to Dell tech support...
Well, it sounds like I'm going to have to send it off :( I guess the one good thing is I can get this one all set up while I wait for the new one and just restore my backup.
Hopefully this doesn't turn into a "Dell tech support sucks" or "X50v hardware replacement replacements" thread.
I will follow up for the record.

My old iPAQ h2210 was like you say, it was as if the touch screen overlay was not correctly positioned in the bottom left corner, so it was sort of raised towards the bottom in the left-middle area of the screen. This raised area went right to the edge of the screen and if you looked at where the plastic cover meets the screen overlay you could clearly see that it was raised. It worked fine but it was annoying and not really a good thing to have on a device which you paid a lot of money for.
I guess in a way its similar to having a huge bubble in the edge of a screen protector but it's stuck there (not that I use screen protectors anymore), but it's less noticeable by looking at it.
I never did bother to do anything about it on my old iPAQ (mainly because I never got around to it and I didn't want to bother sending it away and not having the PDA for however long the repair would have taken). However, I would advise getting it replaced.

My axim is from the same date range (end of Feb) and it seems to have the same symptoms. It doesn't really hinder anything but once I read your post I could certainly see the same physical conditions that you mentioned.
So I figured I'd complain about it now and get it replaced before I was past the 21 days. I went into the Dell chat and after a 6 minute conversation (no wait time) I had a new unit on the way. They did try to get me to do a hard reset, which made me laugh (and I commented about that in my chat survey), but in any event, I have a new one coming (I'm supposed to send mine in after I receive the new one using the same box).
I figured that's just how the screen was supposed to be, so thanks for posting!

Hi, I just got my X50v yesterday and it feels like the film that covers the lcd is way too tight! The screen is incredibly insensitve and I have to really press hard for my taps to register. My device was an "engineering model" that I baught on Ebay, so I guess it was really one of the first ones. Is anyone else having screen sensitivity problems? Oh, and one more thing, how can you tell what ROM you have installed? when I soft reset it says "x15". Is that the A02 Rom? Thanks!
