Axim can not connect to WPA WAP- workaround
Hi folks,
I found a way to get around connection problems to some WAP access points that are using WPA-TKIP, conceal their SSID and utilize ACL (access control list). If you can connect without Odyssey, you are lucky one and do not need to read on.
Essentially the problem lies in the WLAN utility.
The key is to lie to the WLAN about the WiFi network parameters and have Odyssey to take over.
When you turn the WiFi on while the unit is outside of range of your WiFi network you can manualy configure your WPA-TKIP network. Set the same parameters in Odyssey and enable it. Now get inside the range of your network and chances are that when Axim detects the WiFi transmiter it will connect fine. However if you turn your WiFi off or Soft reset the Axim you will not be able to connect again.
The problem is that the WLAN utility incorrectly picks the network as being WEP protected instead of WPA and overwrites your WiFi WPA network settings that you entered before. Due to an internal bug the WLAN then gives you only two authentication options: encryption off or WEP, the other two items WPA and WPA-PSK are missing from the drop down menu. Consequently the Axim tries to authenticate using both WLAN WEP and Odyssey WPA and rarely finishes this process successfully.
The fix is simple- in the network settings that WLAN detected change Authentication to Open and Data Encryption to Disabled. What happens then is that WLAN gives up authentication attempts and Odyssey can establish the link successfully.
I hope this will help some of you.
Regards,
CD
