I've been unable to assign buttons on Media Player 10 on my
X50. Going to Menu->Options->Buttons seems to indicate that one
can assign buttons however when I hit Assign and a button the
device simply goes to the current button function and I cannot
change it.

That's right -- only the directional-pad buttons are available for reassignment. Bummer.
