Help ... Can't run backup from program file

I have had my Axim for 1 week now and had all my programs loaded and did one backup to a SD card with no problem. I tried to work on my WiFi settings and realized I was worse off so went into Backup on the Program Files to do a restore and the only thing that happened was the timer ran for about 10 sec and then it closed.. with the SD card in the slot I went to file explorer and double tapped the backup file and it restored the unit. However I have not been able to use the backup function on the unit ..when I click on it, it will put the timer icon on the screen as though it is running for about 10 sec and then closes. I have been able to create a backup through the sync program, but this is a problem I need to get fixed. One other quick question.. why is it that the one only backup through the unit to the SD card is labelled default.dbk and the backup through the sync software is called backup.stg .. two different extensions.
Can someone please give me a suggestion what is going on.. thanks.
Dave

they are created by two different programs. was the sd card in the slot when you tried to start the backup program on the pda? if not try that. it sounds like it is looking for something but not finding it. it that doesn't work you could always do a hard reset since it sounds like you are sure the backup you have is a good one since you already restored from it.

One update .. I went into the backup program again and while the busy icon was running noticed that it is looking at the BIS area for the default.DBK file... why would it want to look at the BIS area when I originally did my backup to the SD card... sorry for all the questions. I am just trying to understand this issue. Thanks.

if you are talking about the dropdown in the middle of the page, it is the default setting. what does it say about the requried: just above the backup to box? I wonder if you are running out of memory somehow? Also you may want to try a soft reset to see if it clears it.

fixed the problem... but with lots of pain

Ok .. so I did a hard reset ... and then did a restore from my backup through sync... and then went into the backup function .. it was still messed up ... so I did another hard reset .. and this time when it was in a virgin state attempted a backup .. waaahooo it worked... so put my SD card with the original backup in ... it was 4 days old so lost some of the software I had loaded.. but it was better than nothing. I did a restore from the card... then immediately checked to see if the backup function worked from the Axim program..and yes it did... so went hunting for the software I did not have and I think I have put it all back on... did a backup to the SD card about 1 hour ago... and then copied it to my hard drive as well.. I think I am back up and running again.. but still don't know what caused this originally... it makes me nervous when this sort of stuff happens...I guess that is why you should backup backup backup... I have another question about changing partnership names now..but will post in the other forum. Thanks for your help. Dave
