Difficult to sync x50v

Hello,

I bought a x50v in February and have loved it, but lately the travel kit that I use to sync at work will almost never sync. Dell sent me a replacement cable and still no syncing. I have also noticed that syncing at home on the cradle is becoming more and more difficult. It seems like it only syncs about 50% of the time.

Is this a documented problem with the x50v?

Should I get a replacement unit?

Thanks,
Rob

When does it synch? could it be a problem with the connection at the bottom of the unit?

I too have this problem. I have to soft reset every other time just to get it to communicate with active sync. Any ideas what might be the problem?

My problem is that I just loose connection. I'll sync with either the cradle or USB sync cable and next time I check it says that I am not connected even though I am and have not even touched the unit.

I am also having problems with the sync. When I have the x50v plugged in with the travel kit (also at work) the screen flickers almost like it can't decide if its plugged in or not. If I turn off Activesync, the flickering stops. Is this the same issue with yours?

How is the pda powered? are you using the ac adapter or just power from the usb port? if just the usb then it can't power and charge the unit. do a search on this site and you will find plenty of posts related to this.

It has degraded to the point that it won't sync at all. I get the Bleep when I place it in the cradle. About 50% of the time Activesync tries to process the connection, and 50% of the time ActiveSync continues to say "Not Connected". Even if ActiveSync processes the connection, it usually never finishes.

I called Dell today and they said to try removing and then re-establishing the partnership. I might do a hard reboot as well. My coworker also suggested connecting via a guest partnership. I will try these ideas tonight.

I also had a problem with the screen flickering on the travel kit cable. Dell sent me a new cable, but that didn't fix the issue. My x50v also won't connect in the cradle, but I have never had any flickering problems in the cradle, only with the USB sync cable.

If you have a firewall running, check to see if Activesync has access to the network. I had this problem too. Once I unblocked the firewall for Activesync, I was able to sync. I think that Activesync checks to see if the network is accessible for network sync. I may be wrong on that last bit, so correct me if I'm yapping up the wrong tree. :-)

Read this thread for information about cables and charging. Flickering screens and lights in the buttons are all indicators of what is happening. Bottom line: You cannot run and charge from a USB port reliably, no matter the cable. You cannot reliably run and charge through a third party charging/usb cable, no matter the vendor. You CAN fry your USB ports if you aren't careful and do try to charge and run with a non-Dell cable.

Hi.
I got same problem like many others of you, with ActiveSync.
I found out that this must be an software problem, and not a hardware problem.
I got same problem even when trying to sync trough wireless, bluetooth, IR or USB. It will only sync now and then ?
I got the best result when starting ActiveSync from PDA.
I also find out that once i starting ActiveSync from PDA, it shuts down again imidiatly.
ActiveSync on PDA, does'nt start by itself when connected to USB-cradle, like it should.

Hi,

I would have a newbie question. My Axim is synchronising fine, but if I leave it in the cradle and turn it off and on again I can not get a connection to my computer. The only way to get it work again is to remove the Axim from the cradle and to put back again.
There ought to be a way to get it work w/o physical movement, oughtn’t to be?

I got my X50v about 6 days ago and have already had problems with ActiveSync. It syncs fine a few times then either does not detect the connection or connects for a couple of seconds until it says "looking for changes" then disconnects and does nothing. I've heard someone say they have the same problem(another thread) on a Sony VAIO(what I have). Does anyone else have a Sony VAIO?
