Loosing Data in SD Card!!!

I think there is a problem with my x50v or my SD Card!
I have installed some applications on my SD Card. After a day I turn on my PDA, all files in my SD card had been deleted!11!! but directories in SD Card and shortcust in program list were exist!!
I installed the apps again.
Today I noticed "PowerCAD" directory is not in my SD CArd :((
What's the problem???

Did you try a soft reset? I bet the programs are still there. Have you got a card reader? You need to check and see if the card still has stuff on it, and if not, it may be your card.

Try reformatting the card from Fat32 to FAt16 (or vice-versa). You will need a utility programme like Pocket Mechanic to do this.

FAT 16 seems to work better with media files. Why, I dunno.

I had a similar experience - in fact twice. I have an X50v and I got a Sandisk 1GB card with it direct from Dell. I have twice lost all or almost all the files on the SD card and I think it may have been while watching avi files from the SD card itself.

I have now settled on using the SD card for non-important things - games, mp3's, etc - things that I can live without if they get lost and/or can be easily copied back to the SD card from the PC. My main data backups and documents, along with cab files for re-installs, are all on a CF card and I have had no trouble at all with that.

Who makes the card? You left out this very important information. About 3 months ago, we wrapped up a summary of a study on 1GB cards (and 2GB cards are still not very common). My recommendation to most users is to go with Lexar SD cards...they have proven to be the most reliable. Some Sandisk users will argue with me, but to them, I say, "I was a Sandisk SD card user as well...1GB card...until my data crashed on that card a second time." No such thing has happened to any of my Lexar cards.

May be i can add some usefull hints here. (for a newbie - cool :rolling: )
I exactly had this awfull pb with my ... ipaq 4150.
first thing it's may not be because of the pda

then it happened with a 1go sd. so i took the sd back and got a new one. And i tested it with a simple tech256 mb with wich i never had any trouble with (cost me 100 € 13 months ago !)
And with this it happened to !!
so my opinion:
may not be the pda,
may not be the sd card.
But, my be a combination of software working badly toogether.
the pb is i use dozen of software, who's guilty.
no evidence at all but i suspecting wishbar advance 2 - (this is totally subjective - not shure of it)

Hope i won't get this pb again !
sometimes nothing is left, sometimes empty files. or half of a picture - a total mess

Good luck with this !

Saw this on another forum board

I came to this site specifically to learn more about this problem.
I am planning to buy the X50v but had read on a few other forums that there had been major issues with SD cards losing data. On one of the other forums (not sure which), one poster wrote that he had contacted both Dell and Sandisk customer service about the problem and they had collectively agreed that there is an inherent(possibly incorrectable) compatibility problem between the X50v and Sandisk SD cards.
Based on all I've read (here and elsewhere), I'd suggest going with another brand of SD card or choosing the MMC card option instead.

I have had the same thing happen to me. I had alot of Word, Excel, and Repligo files on a Lexar 1 GB card for use on my X50v. The other day they were unaccesible going through the above programs. If I went through file explorer and opened them up right from the card, they opened with no problem. I tried a Sandisk 1 GB card, and the same thing happens. I now have them on my CF card and there they seem to open up fine with the programs. Go figure.

I think SanDisk has had issues with large sd cards. Their CF cards work great, but I always buy another brand sd card.

It's happened to me with a PNY 1 gb SD card. Now I just keep things on there that I can easily replace. Most of my important items are either in BIS or on my CF card.

I have a 1GB SanDisk CF and a 1GB SanDisk SD on my X50v. I have had no problem with both of them for a month. But last night I was transferring mp3s to my SD card using a card reader, then I couldn't see all the files on the card when I plugged it in my PDA. The space was still used though. Put it back on the card reader, same thing...I hope it's not the SanDisk thing coz I love SanDisk
