I have a x5 that has PPC 2002 and I was updating the Rom to A05 and right at the end i got an error message on the handheld and now even after a hard boot all I get is the Dell Blue Screen. I just received this and I am at a loss of what to do now. i do have the original pocket pc companion cd. any help would be great

did you do a backup of the old rom per the instructions? I think you can go back to the old rom from that. do a search on this site for rom recovery and see if you can find something on it.

a belated thanks :approve:

There seems to be a lot of X5 users having problems the past few days with ROM upgrades, wonder if there's a lot more X5s being sold on ebay.

I have the backup in my documents but are useless without my two computers talking to each other. If you have any other thoughts please let me know... I just bought it today and as always try to upgrade my toys right away... thanks

Did you try the instructions at http://tom61.arcadecontrols.com/axim_bootloader.html ? It contains all the steps necessary to load an X5 image on a non-functioning unit. The trickiest part is getting the button pushes in the correct order.
If you have the .img file on your PC from the upgrade process, you can copy that to a CF card.

That process won't work on an X5, the X5 needs to have the image on a CF card and the dexterity to push the buttons in a particular order and release 2 of them at just the right time without releasing the other 2.

That's what I thought at 1st, until I re-read his post and saw that he was running PPC 2002 :) That's when I realized he had to have an X5 as the X50 always had WM2003.
