Exclamation X50v A04 Forgets Program Settings

Just got my new X50v ROM A04 last Thursday. It seemed quite nice with the exception of problems using mobipocket requiring the purchase of Tweak2k2 to put the application into true VGA mode. I then noticed a small but extremely irritating glitch:

When you close an application, it sometimes does not remember the change in the settings.

This applies to many applications including Calendar, Tasks, Mobipocket, and eReader. Here is an example with Calendar:
  • Open Calendar
  • Select a different view (appointments -> times)
  • Exit Calendar using switcher bar
  • Reopen Calendar

If yours is like mine, the Calendar will open in the view you had before you changed it. You can trick it into remembering by changing one of the options before exiting the application. Apparently this forces the application to modify the registry immediately instead of waiting for the close.

This might not be so bad if it did not occur with other applications such as Mobipocket and eReader where the bookmarks and your previous location can disappear upon exit.

Could you let me know if you have the same issue. Thanks

ereader forgets

Yes, I have the same problem with ereader and it is maddening. I finish on, say, page 256 and bookmark it but when I reopen, it forgets everything and resets to the beginning and erases all my bookmarks. Would sure like a fix for this. This occurs with my x50v, did not occur with my last Axim.

This may not be a problem with the A04 ROM. Try exiting using the programs built in exit function and not the switcher bar. I know that in other versions of the ROM you must do this to keep settings made in a program.

Mad The Switcher Bar has a serious bug

The switcher bar apparently does not close programs appropriately, it just kills them. This means that any transactions currently in memory but not committed to a file fail miserably. You can purchase a number of other program managers that work properly but Dell should fix this blatant bug in their software!!!

I would liken the switcher bar the desktop Windows equilivent of Task Manager. It is not designed to exit programs but rather to stop them. Programs that do not automaticly save information should have thier own exit command. It is not Dell's fault but Microsofts and it is not so much of a fault as something used as it was not designed.

I have noticed the same problem in Pocket e-Sword since I upgraded to A03. I choose the program's exit function and it never remembers where it was at the time of exiting. I did not have this problem with A02 or A01. Haven't tried A04.
