Hope that this one works out better for you. :approve:
Me too. I asked the Dell support whether there is anything known about this issue so I can try to avoid it in the future and they said something about scanning downloaded files for viruses
So basically they don't know or aren't telling anything about this issue. I don't plan to change the way I was using my unit in any way, I'll fill up the BIS if need be. I want to make sure my unit will stand up to the rigors of my use, and since I already have a refurb I won't mind getting another if it breaks again :hide:
Eh suck, my BIS just disappeared too. My install of Resco Audio Recorder froze 'bout halfway through with at least 50 megs free on BIS so I did a soft reset and *PFT!* no more BIS. :-( Like I said. Suck.
Maybe searching for a ROM update on the Dell website and flashing the unit will restore it. Backup first.
Some people reported that flashing a ROM with a different size (this is done flashing a different language ROM) formats BIS, and with this method BIS goes back to life.
Try this method before getting a refurb unit, if you haven't anything to loose.
Good luck.

Contacted support via email and explained in general terms what was going on and what I did to correct it. In their response email they immediately recognized that the solution was replacement, and have dispatched a replacement unit to me. It seems like this is a known problem with a standard solution.
Right now I can't see my return status under Support History, hope they didn't lose me.
I am not looking forward to reinstalling my Brando protector!
When this happened to me last week, it took me 15 minutes to explain what was going on. Eventually they did agree to send a replacement.
I never did see a change in support history, or get email with a tracking number, but my replacement did show up when he said it would. Hang in there.
This worked for me. My X50v lost the bis while I was copying a file from the CF card to a SD card. I downloaded Psmformat, ran it, and the BIS returned. You have to copy it to the X50V, and run it there. It does not appear to do anything when you click on it, in fact it took one hour to run. In that time, the X50V ran very very slow. I did a hard reset. The BIS was empty after it finished, but it was there saving me a return. I had backed up the BIS to a SD card so I copied the contents from the SD folder to the BIS folder. This needs to be a sticky as it would reduce the need for so many X50V's to be returned for exchange. Aximsite saved me!

Yes, this is fairly big news, although as of now it seems hit-or-miss. When I got my new unit I did something that might be a good idea... the very first thing I wrote to the BIS was a "buffer" file (in my case a jpeg image) that I never intend to erase or overwrite. This, I hope, will protect the system area from being inadvertently encroached upon. So far so good, but *shrug*
