VGA Games freeze

Hey All,

Seems like I'm having issues playing VGA games. The only two games I've tried are Stungcar and Enigmo... neither of which work. After a while, they both hang. They both start up alright, but for some reason, it can never get past a couple of seconds into the game. I don't even get to begin the game, after the splash screen it freezes.

I've tried various things, including a reset before playing the game, a hardreset and reinstalling the entire thing. I even reinstalled activeSync. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Are you running any programs in the background? If so, you should go to running programs and shut down some. If you don't have enough memory free, that may cause some hang-ups.

It definately isn't due to the lack of memory. I make sure no other programs are running. I even do a softreset before the game starts.

I have both of those games and never experienced hang ups. Where do you have them installed? What video mode are you in? Are you using a different video driver? Enhanced gapi driver. It may not be memory problem just a conflict with another program. Do you have many plugins running on the today screen?

i just started on Ancient Evil VGA moments ago, and it re-allocated by Program Memory from 43MB to 47MB...

I had a similar problem, the demo worked fine installed to BIS but the full version was choking ... it would go to a "Static" screen after the "Aspyr" splash. I reinstalled once to BIS and it worked, except it was very slow, and shortly it stopped working again. So I resintalled to CF and it works fine and full speed now. I have Pocketbreeze and iLauncher running in Today and it works fine.

EDIT: Problem came back, now I have found the real culprit -- WRtools Resinfo ... the latest version interacts with Enigmo, rendering it unusable. If I shut it down, Enigmo works fine. Odd.

I don't even have that program installed... but yeah, thats the same problem I'm having. I barely have any extra programs running... getting very frustrated. I don't play the games, but its a nice feature I like to show off :)

Well let's see if we can't fix it. What do you have installed on the machine, especially today screen plugins and resident utilities?

Wait a sec, did you say that at factory state, with nothing but a fresh hard reset and these games, that they still exhibit this problem?

Sorry about that.

But yes, I did a full factory restore, and upgraded the firmware and everything. Still no luck. I even reinstalled active sync.

In this case it may be time to contact Dell service. They can get you a replacement device.
