Question X50v freezing when closing large docs. Help?

I am a fairly new x50v user and have transferred large Word work files to my CF card but am having problems. If I open a large Word document (e.g. 1-2MB) it can be slow to open. However when I close the document the real problems begin as the program freezes. A multicoloured revolving circle appears in the middle of the screeen (which I assume is the equivalent to windows "egg timer") and continues to revolve.......for ever! The device times out and switches off. When switched back on the revolving circle is still going and the system is frozen. I always have to do a soft reset to get things back to normal. However, when I begin working with another big document the same thing happens every time.

Over 72MB of my 91MB internal storage memory is free and only 15MB of the 61.75MB of main memory is being used. The CF card is 512MB and has plenty of room still on it.

I am at a loss as there seems to be bucket loads of unused memory to deal with this simply operation.

Can anyone help?

try minimizing it first buy tapping the x on top then close it from the switcher program. If I do not do that when I am using Adobe for my pdf files I have the same thing happen to me. Try it won't cost anything.

And welcome to the Axim Nation! :approve:

Thanks for the advice but the problem is that once I tap the X on top that is actually when the device starts to freeze. At that point I cant do anything more e.g. I cant use the switcher program to exit all programs as I am prevented from doing anything else except staring helplessly at that revolving circle. The only option seems to be to do a soft reboot but it is a bit of joke having to do that several times a day.
BTW thanks for the welcome. I'm amazed at such a prompt reply! This site is such a wonderful idea.

sorry that did not help. maybe you remove all programs and do a hard reset and start from scatch and try and reload just your docs after removing all othe programs to see if there is another program causing a problem. let us know how you make out and don't forget search this site. Alot of the people here know much more than me so good luck.

I have the same problem! Except that my documents are a 256K txt file and a 2K--yes, just 2K--word file. It takes me about a minute to close Word whether I've edited the document or not. It is soooo irritating.

I have the same exact problem, it is enough to make me scream! Finally I tried saving the file as a pocket word document instead of a native word document. That fixed it. However, I prefer to save as native word because then I can drag and drop files instead of converting them on sync.
My only hope seems to be 5.0! Hopefully that will solve this issue, because pocket word is downright awful.
Not kidding, I am writing a book on my handheld and this problem alone makes me want to go back to my Tungsten E. Documents To Go is far superior than PW.

galatians51, give TextMaker a try. It is a full-featured WORD replacement and works very well.

Thanks, Gigi, I just downloaded it, looks awesome. It's probably worth the 50 bucks they are asking for it, but I was kind of hoping WM5 would give me something similar since I got the free upgrade with my x50v. However, if that turns out not to be the case, I'm buying Textmaker!

You can also find Textmaker on Ebay:

Also, every once in awhile, it goes on sale.

Wow, that is a huge difference in price. OK, I'm buying it once the trial is over!
