WHOA!!! this was weird

Here's the deal ... the past few days i have been mainly using my x50 as a mp3 player. well, today i COULD NOT get sound to come out of the Axim speaker AT ALL... the only thing that worked was headphones. Puzzling eh?? well i decided to stick my stylus down the headphone jack opening... AMAZING ... I have sound coming out of the Axim again. Anyone else have this happen?

Right now, I have no sound either. Only been listening to music, nothing new, no new programs etc etc. I came on here to see if I could find an answer! I'll try the stylus down the headphone jack.....:( didn't fix it. Bummer.

Do you have to keep the stylus down the headphone jack to have continuous sound or does it go mute again when you remove the stylus?

Talk about frustrating!

Did you try a soft reset to see if it would correct the problem?

Even a hard reset without clearing the data could help too.

a couple of soft resets, yes but not a hard reset. I guess it's onto the hard reset.

That sounds like a loose connection internally. The stylus down the earphone jack is making the connection. Just a thought.

When you plug in a set of headphones to the jack, it switches off the Axim speaker. The idea is when you unplug it the jack will switch the internal speaker back on. If you get no sound, pressing the stylus into the jack may move the contact to make a connection. I've heard others saying to hard reset, and all I can say is make a current backup BEFORE the hard reset as it most likely won't fix anything as this is a mechanical problem inside the jack in the Axim.

Sounds more like the connectors on the headphone jack are getting stuck, perhaps due to a continued use of the headphones. So when you remove the plug from the jack the conectors are still depressed and signaling the device that headphones are present thus silencing the speaker. When PeteUALaw inserted his stylus on the jack he managed to free the connectors, so he had speaker sound again.

Sounds (pun intended) logical to me :approve:

Yeah... I had to send in my x50v for replacement because of that inferior headphone jack.

This has been a known issue for awhile now, the problem is the jack gets stuck internally, usually sticking the headphone plug in and out a couple of times unsticks the jack!

Scary!

Tonight, my headphone jack stopped working. When I unplugged my headphones, the speaker played sound as loud as before. So, I backed up my data and did a hard reset (I tried several soft resets first). Voila! my headphone jack worked like it did before the problem.`However, when I restored my backup, the jack didn't work again. Of course, I did another hard reset. Happily, my jack works great. :)

Unfortunately, I can't restore from the backup because the problem is obviously software related. Now I am not trying to malign anyone's software, but everything worked fine until I downloaded the x50mixer from the software sticky on the front page of the x50 forums. That's the only software that I added recently.

What stinks is that I have dialup at my apartment. It takes forever to download songs. Unfortunately, some of my songs on my cf card that I downloaded from rhapsody won't play. I have to download them again. :realmad:

I have over 6000 MP3s stored on my Desktop, I simply add them via my card when I want a few of them. This way I don't have to re-download them if anything bad were to happen. I also have them backed up on a seperate hard drive as a further back up. I suggest doing the same.
