Spontaneous hard reset after removing battery to revive X50v

Well, I experienced my first major malfunction of my X50v yesterday. After talking to a buddy of mine in the UK on my cell phone (and updating his contact phone numbers), I went to make some changes to a checklist for an upcoming trip and my screen went blank.

Ah. It must have been near it's auto shutdown time... Hit the power stud... Nothing... Hit the power stud again... Nothing...

Panic begins to creap from my brain stem and proceed to throttle my cerebral cortex. Ack!

Hit the power stud again. Hit the soft reset. Nothing.

Finally, I pop the unit out of its case and pop out the battery. Replace battery. Hit power stud...

Pocket PC setup screen appears - Arrrrgggg!

Spend the remainder of the afternoon reinstalling everything (to CF) AND setting up Sprite Backup (which, ironically, I had been preparing to get running for a couple of days, slowly moving my installs to the CF card).

Anyway, I had noticed another post that had talked about a possible connection between cell phone usage and hard resetting of the Axim.

Is there any truth to this connection?

Has anyone else out there had anything like this happen before?

Or was this just the Gods of Fate playing with mind?

I'm now completely paranoid about using my phone and the Axim at the same time (record notes on paper while on the phone, and then to PPC when call completed).

Any tid bits or guidance would be appreciated!

Cheers!

Peter

Sorry about your luck. About all I can say is I use my phone and Axim all the time and have never had this problem. Hopefully this was a one time stray bug for you. Good Luck~

I'd try to let the unit charge overnight, and after performing a complete backup try taking the battery out again and see if resets again. If so, your backup battery may not be working and every time the battery is removed (or battery door latch moved) it will dump your unit. If this appears to be the problem, get in touch with Dell and get a replacement ASAP.

thats a good point about the backup battery, Ivan. PeterS, what is the status of your backup battery? I have also never heard of or had a problem using my cell phone around my x50v. I do that all the time too and not once has it caused a malfunction.

I've checked the usual battery indicators and everything seems fine/fully charged, but I'll give the battery removal a try as well; thanks for suggesting a "debug" approach. Being a software designer, I know that hardware can sometimes "lie". Of course the hardware guys will just say that the software is "misinterpreting" their output ;-)

Now that I have backups I should be okay either way.

Cheers!
