That's great news...thanks for the update. Not feeling so apprehensive about my on-the-way Boxwaves now (but I'll let you know once I have them and have tried them). :)
it has a gap of about 0.5mm (thats all) around the edges.
You have a gap??? I ordered a Brando screen protector (which arrived bent in half...) for my X51 and when I went to put it on I found that it was about 3mm too tall and 2mm too wide; I was ordering some other stuff from Boxwave so I added an antiglare protector hoping it would be a better fit... it is oversized the same as the brando! Did Dell change the screen sizes and not tell the vendors?
BTW: I am currently without any screen protector because the Brando will not sit flat due to being bent in half, and the Anti-glare boxwave makes the screen look very pixely (is that a word) and shows off every spec of dust that lands on it... I may break down and order a boxwave Crystal Clear, but I hate the idea of paying $15 for a piece of plastic that is listed as fiting my PDA and then having to pull out sissors and trim it when it arrives.
I couldn't believe the scratching on Dell's protectors(!). And it seems that most of the replies from Boxwave owners aren't denying the scratching, but making excuses, which doesn't fill one with confidence.
Yeah, Dell's screen protectors usually last a month tops...they suck. As for screen protectors scratching...yes they do scratch, but they not supposed to for a good while. Do you think they're made from tungsten carbide? My last Boxwave screen protector had some light scuffs all over it, but it was also about a year old.

You're welcome to scratch your screen all you want, no one will stop you.

?!!
No, I guess you're right. For a Boxwave to have scratched like that after a couple of weeks made perfect sense. What were we thinking. And I'm not sure what you might prefer using over a stylus (say an ice pick, sewing needle, or just a handy boning knife), but for the rest of us using a stylus under reasonable use, screens generally don't scratch, let alone within a couple of weeks. And I might be way off, but it's reasonable to expect protectors of all things to last a little longer.
But by all means...continue defending the idea of having to replace expensive high-end protectors every 2 or 3 weeks.

Did you even read my post? I said that they're supposed to last longer than some seem to be and that mine lasted a year. And if you're lucky enough to use your pda without ever scratching the screen, more power to you. I, however, have scratched 2 screens (with the stock styli) and the pda is just never the same after that.
I'm not trying to defend bad screen protectors, but in my experience, Boxwave are some of the best and early scratching (getting scuffed up in under a month) seems to be the result of people abusing/not installing correctly. I made the mistake of buying those Dell protectors once, and they were such soft plastic that they scuffed to the point of being unusable in about 2 weeks.

Used Dell before.. clarity is good but scratches like hell. I'm careful and still lotsa scratches all over within a few weeks.
using boxwave cleartouch now. MUCH better. no scratches so far, but the clarity is not as good as Dell's. Its easier to apply and remove and there are no bubbles! Don't forget to remove the thin protective layer (looks like a protector itself so might be confusing) that protects the actual screen protector.

I have used a Boxwave crystal clear for a year now and would highly recommend it. I have very few scratches on it. I keep it in my pocket without a case along with my scissors, pens, etc. I am a nurse so my PDA is constantly hitting the rails on the patient's beds. I am amazed that the screen protector has stood up so well. If yours hasn't it must be defective. I'm sure Boxwave will stand behind their product.
Well I will say that the whole reason I bought the Boxwaves WAS because of how horrible the Dells are. It's not like they won't "protect your screen", if that's all you're looking for. But they start getting scratched from the minute you install them. Within a week they look like you've been rubbing the Axim with sandpaper. And the bubbles are inevitable. I'm not buying premium protectors just for the "protection"...I need them to look good and not scratch up under normal reasonable use (and last at least a few months). Anyway I still haven't gotten them (although I've used up 2 Dells in the short time since I ordered them), but akheron...thanks to your heads-up, I'll be watching for that second layer. I still don't understand how it's not documented (which is frankly ridiculous). Anyway I guess I'll see for myself shortly...
i would just like to say that i too have a boxwave clear protector for my x51v and experienced the same exact thing Stevvie did. upon reading this thread, i discovered i had committed the same error i removed the top protector and all is well. thanks aximsite!
I ordered my boxwave protectors on October 8th....it is now the 23rd and they are still backordered.....
I ordered my Boxwave Cleartouch from Cases.com, and recieved it in 3 days. (to NE PA)And it was in a Ptiority Box.(well packaged) It was the wrong one at first, but they sent me the correct on and I got that in 3 days. This was last week. They will credit my CC when they get the "wrong" one back...Just be sure you order the right one... :approve: BTW.... got the Aximsite 15% discount, too! :approve: Best of luck!
How do you know if you have the "top protector" on or not? Im looking at mine and I cannot tell at all
The new ones actually have a tab telling you to remove it. If your screen protector feels rubbery when you pull you stylus across it, then you've still got the protector's protector on there :rolling: .
