Question Questions for users of Bullgaurd Cover

Hi,

Im thinking of getting the carbon Bullgaurd cover and i have some questions.

Does it offer enough protection for your pda when its in your pocket?

How thick is the cover?

Does it have the carbon pattern all over or just on the front?

Some pics would also help me decide ;)

Im pretty sure it just covers the front the way calculators have their covers. The website has some nice pictures but as far as I recall it was designed to slip over the front when you dont need it and flip to the back when you are using it unless you have one of those huge btteries. Im pretty sure the guy who makes these covers still exist on the forum but im replying because im suprised you didnt get a response.

I have a few of these covers and they are for a different idea than most cases.

The idea is that they are very slim and offer very good screen protection (the most fragile part of your PDA).

I love using these covers as you can really slip the X50v (or X51v) in your pocket with it being pretty much the same size as the unit is bare. This makes it feel smaller and be much more portable.

There are a few things to know though, the covers will NOT protect from drops and falls except protect the screen from direct impacts....

Also, after very prolonged use, you can notice a few small scratches on the side of the pda because of the sliding on and off (but dont be scared away, most find that a few hairline scratchs are well worth the portability and ease of use this cover brings them)

The carbon fiber design is just on the front and sides of the arms, it is not on the inside.

The covers are pretty thin, but made of very though plastic that is almost impossible to break or bend and break unless you are really really trying to

Good luck on your decission, they are great cases!

I agree with Grentz that Bullguard is a great case. Perhaps cover would be more accurate. I've had mine for several months. It just adds a few millimeters to the thickness of the x50 in your pocket. I usually leave the cover in my pocket while I use the x50 and then slip the pda back onto the cover when I return it to my pocket.

Before I got my Bullguard, I had digitizer problems because of pocket lint that found its way under the edges of the screen. I had to dig the lint out with a business card. Since I started using the BullGuard cover, I haven't had any more problems with the digitizer.

I got one a little while ago. Although nice and thin, problem is kinda a pain cause when you take it off, you have to put the cover somewhere. I usually put it in my pocket, but it's getting to be annoying having to slip if off and on. I'm actually looking to get a regular case right now. Been eyeing the piel frama but concerned about the lack of soft reset hole. Magnum is nice but out of stock.

Another thing I've noticed is that although the sides are fine now, the cover has scratched the black area about the D-pad. Have any of you other bullgaurd owners noticed this, or am I the only one. I know they're handmade, so there are differences between each one. Can't say I'm too happy about this. Also check the cover and see if your d-pad is rubbing on the inner part of the cover. I bet it is.

Anyhow, pros are I like that it's thin and doesn't add anything.
Big con is you have to put it somewhere when you take it off. Another big con for me is that my cover scratched the front of my axim.

I'm pretty sure that the person who makes them said that you can just slip it on the back of your axim when you are not using it, though that obviously wouldn't work if you have an extended battery.

That may have been the case for previous versions of Axim, which I can't comment aout cause I never owned one, but I can assure you that you can't slip it on the back of the 51v, due to its shape. It's not symmetrical on the side. You'd end up breking the tabs if you slid it onto the back.

CJ,

you are able to slip the case onto the back of your PDA? I think that I may have a defective one then, :rolling: cause for the life of me, this thing will not slip onto the back. I mean I can physically force it, but it pops off at the slightest provocation, and it is not flush with the back. The tabs bend out and look as it they're going to break off. The bending causes the cover itself to flex, hence it does not sit flush. Are you able to smoothly slide it onto the back side of your 51v? If so, I have to give bull gaurd a call. Also, has the cover scratched the black portion above your D-pad? Thanks in advance for any information.

Don't know- I haven't received mine yet. I just ordered it a few days ago. Now I'm having second thoughts when I read about not being able to slide it on the back and about the scratches.

Ok, looks like I was right.

The cover doesn't sit on the back like it would with the other axims.

However, it does not appear that my cover is able to do this. I won't slide in smoothly, and looks as if the tabs will break. I can physically force it, but the tabs flare out and the back is not flush. Is there something wrong with my particular cover? Further, I've noticed that it has scratched the black plastic above the d-pad, and it appears to be rubbing against the d-pad itself from the looks of the inside of the cover. Is that normal?

I've noticed that the tabs sit a little funny when you put it on back. I am starting to make them a tad bit longer and they grip better but due to the way the Axim is made it still sits a little funny. The wear on the d-pad is pretty normal. If it is bothersome I can re-make one for you and you can send me the old one. It is just silver paint on a black plastic piece (the d-pad that is) and will over time and with use wear off. The cover however will increase that effect.
If I can help or fix it in anyway let me know!

Kevin

Looks like I wasn't specific enough with my comment on the scratched black portion of the axim itself, as opposed the cover. Anyhow, I still like the cover, since it allows for a slim profile, but it is a pain to have to put it in my pocket everytime. There's always pros and cons to everything. The mag case, I'm thinking of getting, will be much thicker than the bull guard, so can't win em all. Plus Kev here seems to be a nice guy, although the issue with the 51v sliding on the back should have been addressed to potential buyers. When I went into the bullguard forum, as CJ did, I had the impression that I was going to be able to slide it on the back as well.

Classe Maggie,
Why don't you re-send me your shipping info and when I get a chance I'll send you one with the correct tabs and a small change I've been messing with that may fix your d-pad problem.
