Bluetooth Keyboard Install Guide for X50 users with WM2003SE or WM5

Getting your Axim X50 to operate with the ThinkOutside Bluetooth Keyboard on either WM2003SE OR the WM5 upgrades

Some folks are having trouble getting their Bluetooth keyboard set up on the X50 systems after upgrading to either A05 or WM5.0. I wanted to post this since I couldn't seem to find it anywhere...If this has already been discussed, please feel free to remove it.

ThinkOutside has included a WM5.0 driver for the Bluetooth model on their website, it can be downloaded here

This zip should be downloaded and unzipped into the folder of your choosing...then, with your Axim X50 connected, open up ActiveSync 4.x and establish a connection to the Axim.

Run the program named StowawayKeyboardPPC43USA.exe
After the program has completed, it will ask you to restart the Axim.
The Axim will restart to a StwySettings Application.

Choose Device to setup
O Bluetooth wireless keyboard
O Stowaway Travel Mouse
O Infrared wireless keyboard
O Connected serial keyboard

Select Bluetooth Wireless keyboard then tap the Setup button

This will launch the bluetooth setup process which is interrupted shortly by a Keyboard applet
The applet will look just like this:

Tap the button labeled Disable built-in HID Driver, this will produce the screen:

I chose to disable the Secure feature by removing the check in the Secure Checkbox...but this was a personal choice.
After this, you will get an information screen suggesting a Firmware update. Choosing to update the firmware failed so after re-establishing the connection I simply closed the Keyboard applet and started using the keyboard in my applications. See the final screen here:

One other note. If you want to use the built-in keyboard, you simply need to tap the arrow next to the keyboard icon to open up the selection list and change to it. As seen here:

I hope this little tutorial will assist you in getting your keyboards running for those still having problems.

Now anyone with a tutorial for the freedom keyboard and WM5 .. ? I asked Freedom if they will have a driver for it any time soon and this was the reply believe it or not: At the present time a driver is not available for Windows Mobile 2005. We may produce one in the future, but I can\'t guarantee if or when, as it is determined by customer demand, and not many customers use this OS yet. Thanks, and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Keyboard setup on X50v with WM5

if you upgrade with the Dell CD, you don't need any other drivers. Just put the keyboard into discover mode (ctrl - left FN - right FN), go to the bluetooth setting control panel and click new partnership under the devices tab. Select the keyboard, put in the passkey, then type the passkey on the keyboard and hit enter.

That's it. Works like a charm and I don't have to re-partner it every time like I did under 2003SE

Where do I get Activesync 4... It seems like the highest I can find is 3.8 and I seen a few messages about 4.1 being bad....?

I have AS 3.8 and when I try to install the Keyboard driver 4.3 I keep getting the following message. "Application Manager cannot install this application on your mobile device due to an invalid setup file. Reinstall and try again.

Please help.
