Lousy USB Sync Charger

This message about this sync cable:
http://accessories.dell.com/sna/Prod...=&refurbished=

This cable can charge handheld from USB and the same time it synchronizes. I used that cable few days without any problem. Yesterday when I connected handheld to USB through that cable, I got a warning sound and I got a massage, that USB voltage exceeds limit. I unplugged USB cable and turned off a computer, but it was to late. I noticed smell of burning electronic components. I found out, that I fried power supply of my computer. I didn't buy yet a new power supply, so I was unable to check my motherboard - probably it's fried too.

Does anybody have any ideas why it happened. I used that cable about a week 5-6 hrs a day and suddenly fried computer. I didn't connect any additional devices to USB or any ports.

Thanks for that link and education! Might be a lot more careful with my Belkin 3-in-1 charger now. Being previously uninformed, I've been syncing and charging without issue through USB, but also with standard 1100mah batteries, for a couple of weeks now...
