Turning Axim into a mobile phone ?

I heard there's a card you can add to the Axim to GSM enable it.

Any idea where can I find one, how much does it cost, and is it reliable/efficient ?

Thanks

There are CF GSM/GPRS cards available but they are only useful for data use (surf the Net, check email, etc.) and not as cell phone substitute because your Axim battery won't last all day long. Do a search for more info.

yup, thats the card like Gigi mentioned, works for data but not so well for voice as the battery constraints

Audiovox

I use the RTM8000 from Audiovox...... its great and works well for me..... you have to get a big battery though. I only use it when I'm away on holiday as it saves taking my mobile and PDA!

I also use it with my laptop! so thats a bonus!

Hi

Can help me. Still having problems running Running Voice 3.5 with Dell Axim 51v [mobile 5] & Audiovox - RTM-8000, so I’ve gone back to my Compac/HP Ipaq 3630 [2002 OS] & Audiovox - RTM-8000 to try RVGSM 3.5 . I downloaded a setup wizard from Audiovox for the Audiovox - RTM-8000 modem [OS 2002], ran it, followed the RVGSM instructions , still can't make a connection [voice or data ] via T-Mobile network. RVGSM doesn’t get passed the initializing stage!

Can you tell me what telephony software you run on the Audiovox -RTM-8000?

Which sim network your on & what "extra string" settings you used?

Thank you
Emmanuel

ps. nice to see franks alive & well! :)

I use a mix of connect to internet pro and the software which came with the card the c2i sets up the card and sim for you

I've tried it with orange and vodaphone without any problems and due to setting it up with connect to internet you don't need to add any strings!

I've dug mine up from the bottom of a draw and may be tempted to play with it. Do you know if you can use the Orange £1 per day payg unlimited orange world thingy to surf the net?
