Purchasing X51v - Hello and a few questions - SD cards
Hello all,

I believe that I have finally found the need to upgrade from my trusty palm to a Windows device and I have chosen the X51v as my new companion. I've searched high and low and decided that this device would do everything I need and at a good price. W/ this preface I pose two questions:

1)I was wondering if spending the extra $$ to purchase a faster writing card will make any difference in my Axim. I see that they sell 3 different "levels" of SD / CF cards; ones designed to meet the data writing speed needs of hi-res digital cameras. I am looking to purchase a 2GB SD and or CF card for general storage. Would I benifit from these faster data write speeds or would my money be better spent on a 4GB card as mentioned in this forum? Also, is there any feedback on compatibility w/ specific 4GB cards?

2) Is there another handheld I should choose over the Axim X51v? I've looked at the HP hx4700 series and found that this Dell is a much better price and I'm unhappy w/ HP/Compaq overall.

Any and all replies are greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,

-E

Congratulations on your fine purchase and welcome to Aximsite! You won't regret it. The x51v is definitely the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Sure, I might be a little bit partial but I honestly do not think you are going to find a better device for the money.

1.) No benefit IN the Axim, but of benefit if you use a high-speed card reader and plan on handling large files. I've found the combination of a 2Gb SD and a 2GB CF to work very well for me.

2.) I'm biased - X51v. Be prepared for learning curves and functional issues, but the knowledge on this site will get you running smooth before you know it.

Axim Rob said it right. The card speed isn't a big deal, but storage space is. The HP is a great unit and a heck of a lot more money and a larger form factor. Welcome to the site.
