There might be : S-out is possible , not only s-out , we maybe can make it 3 color out(yellow, red , white).
But the problem is :
how much you are going to pay for that option. This option is expensive.
Well, give us an idea of a price range. Personally, just being able to show my own picts & videos on any TV is priceless. Being able to play home movies / encoded DVDs is a major bonus.
I'm assuming the S-out & RCA connections are in addition to still having VGA-out. Am I correct? For work I definitely need the VGA-out.
Forgot to mention something - it's my understanding that by having the direct S-video out / RCA connection, we would have considerably less picture distortion than if we used several adapters/converters to get there.
For example: having a VGA-out that needs to be connected to a Std analog TV via RCA connectors would likely cause much more picture degradation....
X51v >>> VGA-out cable >>> VGA-RCA converter >>> Analog TV (Highly Undesirable)
whereas,
X51v >>> RCA-out (yellow, red , white) >>> Analog TV (Highly Desirable) :approve:
even this scenario is likely to produce distortions:
X51v >>> S-out >>> S-RCA adapter >>> Analog TV (Somewhat Undesirable)
Hypothesis: It would be highly desirable to have all 3 interfaces connecting as a "direct-Out" to minimize any signal degradation in the conversion process, i.e., converter(s)/adapter(s) used in between.
Is my hypothesis/assumption valid?
Therefore, assuming my reasoning was correct, I would want to have all 3 direct-out:
#1 - VGA-out to connect to PCs/monitors
#2 - RCA-out to connect to old Analog TV's, a 7" LCD Portable DVD player, etc.
#3 - S-out to connect to my HDTV set at home + other video devices.
Now that would really make my New Year's Cable-out WISH come true. (Assuming that my reasoning above is correct)
Of course, this would bring the price up; however, it would still be a bargain compared to what you would pay for VGA-RCA converter. Just my thoughts.
Anyone, pls feel free to correct anything I may have mentioned that might be out of whack. cheers.
After looking through this thread, Minlas et al., clearly spent quite a bit of time and money to make the axim connect from VGA-out to an S-video TV. I personally see a strong business case for this new cable. It appears that it would provide a very clean solution and possibly cost-effective.
Looking at the big picture, last time I checked (several months, ago)the Axim x50v/x51v was the only PDA with VGA-out. From a business perspective if I had the time, I would patent this new cable design and then sell it to Dell & I suspect it might do wonders for Dell's marketing. Chrismax PM me if you are interested in pursuing this. As a mgmt consultant, I've got quite a bit of contacts here and there.
Just wanted to add my two cents to this thread, I ordered the VGA out cable when he first announced that they were done. I must say that the quality is superb and the price just right honestly a great product. S-video out or RCA out would be awsome and I will buy either one on top of the VGA out I already have, yeah I'm that pleased with the craftmanship. :approve:
Did anyone realize that s-video is just terrible in terms of quality? VGA is way better.
Now, the Xscale chip does have USB host support, so is there any hope of making a USB host cable? If not, what about a mod to let it work?

Bump.
How's your progress on manufacturing those cables chrismax? I foolishly bought the boxwave version that has a male adapter and I need a female one. The only bright side of having the male connector from boxwave is that I have a vga male to dvi male adapter. At least it came with the car adapter and home adapter.

The reason I'd be interested in s-video is for video playback to mid-range TVs and portable/car LCDs. You do not see VGA in TVs until you get to higher end displays, same goes for portable (6-7") LCDs.
