Chrismax - here's my New Year's modified VGA cable-out WISH :yeah: - it comes in 2 Versions (in order of WISH preference):
Version #1 (preferred) :approve: :approve: :approve: : AAA cable with integrated BBB power connector, where
AAA = Has both VGA connector plug-in, and S-video plug-in
BBB = would be able to connect both to AC & DC power sources via USB 2.0 (hi-speed) sync & charge cable, as well as, support the exact same power ratings from: <<AC power source>> Boxwave sync-n-charge USB cable and <<DC power source>> Boxwave car charger (high current 1 Amp output) - yes, I already own both Boxwave products. As an added bonus, the USB power connector would also allow those of us owning the Socket Mobile Power Pack and/or other USB power bricks to have yet another alternative source of power - This is why version #1 would be my preferred option.
Version #2 :approve: :approve: : CCC cable with integrated DDD power connector, where
CCC = Has both VGA connector plug-in, and S-video plug-in
DDD = would be able to connect both to the Dell provided AC power adapter (100-240V~.4A, 50-60 Hz) and a DC power adapter coming from any car charger having high current full 1 Amp output.
By providing either one of these unique cables, you address 2 key shortcomings from existing cables: #1 connecting to a non-VGA device (i.e., Analog & Digital TVs, Portable LCD DVD players, etc.) and #2 having several options for a reliable steady power source to be able to use indefinitely.
Consequently, you would now be taking all Axim X50V/X51V owners one step closer to being able to play videos on our PC monitors, portable LCD players, HDTV's etc. via the TCMP player (previously known as Betaplayer which fully supports the Axim's built-in Intel 2700G Video chip).
As a road warrior, I wouldn't mind paying an extra premium for either version (I'll be willing to pay more for version #1, though). As usual, my road warrior colleagues would also be dying to buy the same cable, and/or any gadget that helps simplify our crazy travelling lifestyles.
One last important requirement: it would need to be compatible with both the Axim X50V & X51V.
Merry Christmas & Happy Hannukah (falls on the same day, this year) to all. cheers...
i dont see how USB 2.0 would help, as the axim only supports 1.1, so even a 2.0 cable wont help.

I would like to say that I would easily buy a cable that allows USB sync, and charging, while connected to VGA. This is because I would love to have a "second computer" running off the primary one, using a LCD monitor.
Let me add however that if this cable had S-Video ability it would be the best accesory ever made for the v series of Axim...ever. Aside from of course GPS stuff. As soon as you have the S-Video ability, you then have the ultimate multimedia device. You can hook your Axim into damn near any display you want to at that point. I think AV hook-ups are a bit too much, and slightly too ancient to bother with.
If such a cable is made, and it works with both VGA and S-Video you can easily count me in on a purchase. And yes, I would also look into selling the design to Dell, because they could really use something like that in their product offerings.

I want S-Video bad and Im willing to pay for it. Ive been considering spending around $75 on a VGA to NTSC converter box so as long as the cable is cheaper than that I will buy one. Plus the benefit of not having to carry around an extra converter box is awesome.
But one question, does this really work. I might be wrong but I dont think the Axim has the chip thats required to convert VGA to S-video. Id like to know more about this cable and how it works.
Can anyone tell me is the S Out the same as RCA out?
IF they are different, is there a converter available? And would this converter have less distortion than running a vga to rca converter cable?
This is very cool and I have some BIG car audeo and video plans!!!
Thanks! :approve:
S-Video to RCA cable adaptors are really cheap and work just fine. RCAs quality isnt quite as good as S-Video. I dont know how it would compare to VGA to RCA converter.
Chrismax,
Just following up on the S-Video/RCA Cable, Everybody is waiting on an update and pics. The demand is high, we need cables Please give us an update. :approve:
