That's really great, Chris, have you decided how much to charge the convert(VGA to S-Video)??

Looks cool. How is the audio quality?
So when can we see it on ebay?

Does the VGA-S-Video box feed off the DC-in on the cable, or does it need to be fed using a cable straight into the box... In short do I need 2 power cables, one for the DC-in and one for the VGA-S-Video box, running power from the USB is a very very nice touch I'll admit, but If I just want to hook it up to a TV (using S-Video of course) using no computer, and have it run indefinately, will I need 2 power cables?
Show side images of this new gadget! And also lay it beside an Axim so we can see a size comparison of it. Thankyou for all your time and effort in this project!
P.S. I see some holes in the case, is there a built in speaker?!

As was the one the my local paper shop gave me. Only the lead in the pencil runs out and then it can be sharpened! The 51v battery lasts no more than 8 switch ons during the day before requiring a reset.
Can anyone tell me.... what is the point of continued ownership of this 51v? It does not meet my purpose, it switches itself off, the uk customer service is crap, should I go on?
Convince me, or it goes back!

No, not in this thread. You took a wrong turn somewhere. Go find another thread to bitch about Dell and your x51, this thread is about the VGA cable with S-Video out.

So how do you get audio using the S-Video adapter? I am looking for audio and video out of my axim into a (preferably) RCA/tulip plug ends. I would like to plug into a TV or monitor that way.
Can anyone give me specifics on how bad the distortion is converting a VGA plug to an RCA? I prior post indicated that there was distortion.

How do you go about ordering Chris, and is the 51v Power adapter available thru you or from Dell.

S-video carrys only video, as well as the "yellow" video jack. To do audio you can do that now easily with any audio cable since the Axim outputs to a headphone jack, so it is easy to buy any sort of audio cable you need -- including a cable that is a headphone jack on one side and RCA jacks (red+white) on the other side.

Lofty,
Not a wrong turn! You guys seem to have an interest, albeit specific to S-video, in the VGA-out capabilities of 51v.
I am looking for guidance not redirection! So how can I access the appropriate kit to use it to its full potential as an alternative (to a laptop) presenter's tool? Does anyone know? - The optional cable (as advertised) is no longer available.
Before asking, have tried ebay - but maybe things might change.
If it seems like bitching about Dell, I am aware there are other forums to do that - but guidance and support is what I'm after.

chrismax does not have the cable ready for sale yet. Either you can wait for chrismax to post here about it or you can constantly check chrismax's ebay profile until the cable shows up. If you want a vga out cable, you can get one from boxwave (though I don't recommend it) or you can buy it for $28.50 from another online vendor (don't have the link sorry. Try searching this forum for it. Search is your friend).

Nigel,
You buy this cable (or one like it) to enable the connection of the X51v
to a vga capable display. Plug them in, turn on the "Mirror" application
in Start->Settings->System->Mirror. A nice LCD display would work well.
For presentations a VGA capable projection display would work.
In addition you should get a bluetooth keyboard. If the @#$ BT stack wasn't
so stupid you could also get a BT mouse and headset.
The apps for the most part are VGA capable. I'd get the Opera browser
to really fill the web usage.
Hope that helps some

Chrismax - do you have an update on the outstanding questions? i.e., a price for the VGA to S-Video converter box? single or dual power source required? side pictures of adapter box? what are those holes on the converter box? video quality? any distortions?
I realize these are a lot of questions to be answered, however, they're required to make a buying decision.
Thanks for the time and effort you have put into this endeavor. For you to reap real benefits, I would think BIG (pardon the overused pun) and suggest you consider filing a patent, as I'm not aware of any other portable products that would unleash the Axim's multimedia potential in a cost effective manner.
Once you get your product more polished - then, along with your filed patent, you can sell rights to Dell to place their brand name on your cable - surely, Dell could use this to launch additional multimedia features - Dell needs all the help they can get to gain additional market share in the emerging handheld multimedia marketspace.
Best of luck & wish all your efforts help you reap well deserved benefits. Not to sound corny, but to make your dreams come true, you must truly believe in them. :approve:
