Backwards cases???

Am I the only one who thinks it's bizarre that manufacturers of "book style" cases show the Axim mounted on the left side of the spine? To me this is totally counterintuitive. If I buy a notebook, I always start writing on the front of the first page, which is on the right side of the spine. I would treat the Axim the same way, wanting the inside left of the case to hold spare CF and SD cards and the inside right for the Axim.

I thought perhaps the mfr I was browsing (Rhinoskin) was showing a left-handed model but the more I look around, the more of these "backwards" cases I see. Someone, I forget which website, stated specifically that the Axim-on-left is the right-hander's model and vice versa.

Argh! Where can I get a leather case that mounts on the right and is NOT black or brown?? (Somewhat rhetorical question.)

If you are right handed, holding the Axim in your left hand, do you want to hold the Axim or the door that closes over it?

Everyone is different and I only know of one leather case manufacturer (http://www.n-signia.com/store/) who offers you a choice in "opens left" or "opens right". They also have a flip over the top case.

Also, your buttons are on the left side of your Axim and would be hard to reach if the door was hinged on the other side!

With no choice, you just get used to whatever you have I guess.

To me, (right hander), I like the way the Rhinoskin opens. :approve:

This is what I use:

Mounts on the right side and is red! :approve:

Bless you, Wendy, that's great. I also found some at elitextreme.com (leather book-style with the tab closure) in loads of great colors. Cheap too! I may get two!

To Tahoe-Trekker: The only button I use is the wireless on/off; I could certainly open the case wide enough to push that a couple of times. I dunno, that Rhinoskin one just looks klugey to me. Ah well, different strokes for different folks.

Thanks,

D.

Those colors are nice! :) Be aware though that they use velcro to hold the axim in the case.

Yeah, the Rhinoskin is for taking my Axim to work where it gets bumped around a little... I really prefer my leater case from n-Signia (http://www.n-signia.com/store/), you might look at them just for a comparison. :approve:

My cover flips up. :approve: Problem solved. Friendly to either left- or right-handed users.

Another question...why is Velcro such a bad idea? Seems to me if the Velcro pad were big enough (which most of these manufacturers seem to use), there wouldn't be an issue in having the PDA fall out of the case.

It may just be me, but I don't like the idea of something sticky on my axim. I had a velcro case with my IIIc, and I hated the rrrrrrrriiiiiippppppp when I had to take it out.

Also, I would be afraid of ripping of the battery door when you took it out of the case.

I could be wrong....anyone out there use a case with velcro?

Big Smile

Well, I had ordered that Naztech case on 12/26...it finally arrived TODAY, after I'd given it up for lost and emailed the merchant to cancel the order.

It's a very nicely constructed case of soft pale blue leather, and the Velcro pad in the case is pretty big - about the size of the Axim screen. Then there are four smaller Velcro squares (about the size of quarters) to put on the Axim.

I don't know what to do because I ordered the Magnesium case from Innopocket a few days ago. I'm sure the Mag case is more protective but this one is way prettier (and for being slid into a structured purse it should provide adequate protection). My husband worries about the glue on the back of the Axim but we have this stuff for removing sticker residue that would probably work. So I am torn. The store for this one has a 15-day return so I'll probably wait until the mag case gets here and compare them.

Sigh...the right accessory can make SUCH a difference

Well, I tried the velcoins on the Naztech case...ARGH. You were right, Wendy, it nearly ripped the battery cover off when I took it out the first time. So sad, because I loved the blue case...

But then I had a BRAINSTORM! I ordered one of those cheap silicone skins from an ebay seller for $1.99. I'm going to put the Axim in it and put the velcoins on the back of the SKIN! Then put THAT in the blue case! That way, if the velcro starts to pull, it will only pull on the skin and not the battery case.

Problem solved, Donna happy :approve:

Even better! Kevin, the Bullguard cases guy, sold me a "factory second" Bullguard case which I have now velcroed "backwards" into the leather case. The Axim slides right into and out of the Bullguard thing and I don't have to worry about the velcro ripping anywhere.
