Nutshell Case - Mountain Biking - X50v
So I'm an Axim obsessed freeride mountain biker. I've been using handhelds for about 5 years and racing/riding mountain bikes for 10 years and last night both worlds collided - good and bad.
So there I was minding my own business, taking the dogs out for a quick pee, when I noticed that the unseasonably warm weather for my Northern Ontario location had provided some bare pavement on my street. So....dogs in house, helmet on head, hop on rig, rip up and down street on my new virgin '06 bike. All is well. Decide to pull a manual down the street which goes well until my cell phone rings, distracts me enough that I pull back just a little too far, grabbing rear brake that isn't working 100% cuz they're too damn new, landing on right butt cheek on wet, dirty with sand and salt, pavement and sliding for a good 10 feet - with neighbours watching (of course!). After a short period of cursing under breath and explaining to the neighbours than nothing is hurt other than my pride, I go inside to change. I thought I was in real trouble when I pulled off my belt and my nutshell encased X50v fell on the floor. I had completely forgotten it was on before I hopped on my bike. The nutshell was covered in sand and definitely scraped but......Axim was absolutely fine!!! Even the nutshell looks almost unscathed after a light washing.
The further tie to biking and axims is that the rubber feet came off the X50v but I was able to glue them really well with my silly bicycle tube patch kit glue! They're on there for life now it seems!
So next time you go ripping it up on your bike, either take off your Axim or at least have a nutshell case and properly functioning rear brakes. I've been limping most of the day to avoid the pain of my road rash - I'm typing this standing up!!!
