Where do you get replacement power tips?
I've searched Dell.com and googled it, but I can't seem to find a replacement tip to go from the x50v serial port to the standard coaxial plug. I've lost two of those things now, and the only way I got a second one was by buying another Axim. I've got like 5 cradles and yet I can't seem to keep one of these tips without losing it somewhere for more than a month.

Anyone know where I can get replacements; Even better yet a set of replacements?

BTW- not willing to deal with partsearch/partsolver.com, they stole $300 from me so we're not on great terms.

You must be rich buying all those tips and cradles. Instead of searching for tip, try power adapter. Also, try ebay.

You mean this thing?:

http://pc-mobile.net/dcx50.jpg

9 bucks plus shipping. Reliable vendor too.

However, i'd rather buy the "mini-sync-like" usb retractable cable for ~ 16 bucks instead. Pick up the battery extender too and save on shipping.

Keep in mind that they are two "different" products in that the usb mini-sync cable will charge at ~500mah (limited by usb connection) so it will charge your Ax only when it's off ... but you will also have the capability to sync your Ax too without using the cradle.

The other replacement dongle (picture link supplied above)here:

The dcx50 http://pc-mobile.net/ax50.htm for 8.50 is the higher voltage connection requiring higher amperage. According to the pc-mobile site and their Dell x50/51v powering issues link the Ax has no problems with 5v (like using the battery extender with nimh batteries) but it needs high amps (1.0a or more) to charge the Ax while on, lower while off. How much lower while PDA is off i'd like to know the answer.

Anyways, the point is that if you get usb charging solution then you gotta have your Ax off to charge. If you get the DC option then you need to use the dell supplied power brick/cable or the battery extender with good nimh batteries.

I don't know if i've been clear but there you go.

That $8.50 dongle is exactly what I was looking for- thanks!
Oh, and I'm not rich; the person on ebay I bought my last Axim from just randomly gave me 3 cradles and chargers plus a horde of other stuff. Great guy.

Also, about the battery extender- these Pelican PSP external batteries work great and have enough juice to charge even while running max CPU most of the time, plus they're about 30% smaller than a 4 pack of AAs. Definitely recommend one for anyone who tends to run low on power before the end of the day. $20 at Radioshack.

Yep, I have one of those Pelican Power Bricks ... except i'm one of the unlucky ones that have had problems with it. It won't charge my Ax at all.

I've read one of the forum members who had experiences with 3 of them .. and found out that the one that actually worked for him was put together differently even though they all claimed the same specs. 3.6v, 3600mah. Most people that say their Pelicans worked measured theirs at ~ 5.5v give or take a bit.

It's been suggested that Pelican Quality Control is poor ... and maybe i've got one that just happens not to be compatible with my Ax. In any case, i've got a battery extender and it works fine ... within certain working parameters.

In any case, i'm glad my suggestion helped you out. I'm going to order some for myself as backups etc.

I just tried a second one I bought today and just as you said it didn't charge at all- that is certainly weird. I'll likely return it and either try to find another like my first one or just give up and be happy to have one working one. One of these days I'll grab a huge general purpose lion battery and solder a plug and a jack on, but in the meantime these things are just too cheap and convenient. Hate the 1.5mm jack they put on it though, looks delicate. Other than that, great product. I can actually use my Wifi without it being the last thing I do that day.
