Think Outside Bluetooth keyboard confusion (black vs. grey)
Hi all,

I've read up on the threads and it looks like Bluetooth is the way to go (instead of IR). I'm willing to pay the difference for the flexibility.

I've been researching on the forums, and it seems that Think Outside's Stowaway is getting the most nods.

I looked around on eBay and I'm seeing a "black" version of the TO BT keyboard. Is that a newer/older version? Cause the picture on the Think Outside site (and most others) is the grey version.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8

VS

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=284507

(this one seems to be some XTBUE version?)

Any clarifications would greatly be appreciated!

If I were you, I'd go to Think Outsides web site and find out what the latest model numbering is... you can do a search on their web site with the model numbers from e-Bay or just ask them via e-amil... you'll likely get a more accurate responce from them than from here.

My Think Outside Bluetooth Keyboard's Model Number is XTBT01 for whatever that's worth! I have a X51v and it works great! Don't forget to get the mouse too!

Dell's OEM version of the TO BT keyboard is black. Same unit, different colour. Possibly a different version of firmware on board, to accomodate Axim-specific quirks. Can be re-flashed with the TO version of the firmware if you so desire. (I stuck with the Dell firmware )

BTW: The stand that comes with these keyboard has a nasty design flaws that result in cracks. ThinkOutside is supposedly reworking the design. In the meanwhile if you e-mail them they will send you a couple of replacement ones in the mail. Other than the cracking stand issue, they are excellent keyboards.

Experienced the crack like the first day. I would always like to adjust the angle of the stand too. The X51v doesnt really rest perfectly on the gripped curve at the base but its not a big issue. The keyboard is 9/10, the stand is 6/10. But I'm not gonna let it affect the overall score so its 9/10.

Well, the stand on the black version does look different, although every copy of the picture for that seems to be blurry...making it sorta "unofficial" looking, lol.

I'll e-mail TO and see what they say. :-P

XTBT01 is also the model number on my BT keyboard. I really like it, though I had trouble figuring out how to keep it working when using it intermittently (finally realized how to reconnect and make sure the Axim recognized the keyboard ). I haven't experienced the cracking problem - may need to check into that .

By the way...

I sent Think Outside and e-mail yesterday and received a reply today. My problem was administrative as well as a warrantee issue and they were handled immediately!

I think the service you get from Think Outside is outstanding!

Thank you Think Outside and especially Rita!

When communicating with vendors, don't forget to check the spam folders in your email - I've been looking for responses before, gotten upset because I thought I was being ignored, only to discover the response was dumped in my spam folder by my ISP !!

What do you mean by "cracks" ? (scratches on the device ?)

No, the hinge where the stand attaches to the keyboard cracks and so its loose, if not fallen off. This does not affect the keyboard or the device at all, just that your stand cant attach to the keyboard no more.

I wish they made a stand that doesnt have the spring so I can just put one in my pocket and open one up to use with the mouse, instead of lugging around the whole keyboard.

Actually, I've had them fail in two different ways: Near where the stand clips on the keyboard (90 degree intersection of a couple of the reinforcing ribs concentrates the stress of unclipping the stand) and the hole where the spring-wire fits into the part that pops up.

Just a quick update. TO did e-mail me back a few days after (although I had already gone ahead and ordered the keyboard off someone on eBay...but I just noticed that the keyboard/mouse deal for 150 CDN is still on. doh!) and they say the only one they make is the gray one. The black one is from Dell. So I have no idea what the picture of the black ones on eBay is, but when mine came, it was gray.

I'm worred about the stand issue as well, but if they'll send free replacements, then I might just go ahead and use it...heh.
