Bluetooth Headphones... Some questions?
Hello,

After having broken my Audio Socket (I plug in / plug out my headphones at least twice a day, sometimes more), I was thinking about bluetooth headphones, hoping to keep my tomorrow-replaced unit working somwhat longer than 1 year . In the last year also had to replace my earphones once because of a bad contact in them... So maybe these bluetooth headphones are a solution. I read about the HP headphones, but apparently there are also Logitech Bluetooth headphones (and probably some others also). These headphones usually come with a 3.5 inch adapter. This would be nice (so I could use these headphones with a number of other devices) but isn't really necessary. So here are my questions:

- Are these bluetooth headphones with an adapter (e.g. logitech ones) also usable without the adapter (using the bluetooth functionality of my axim x50)? I know there is a bluetooth profile missing on the Axim, but maybe this is available as third-party software? (and what about my Dell Inspiron 8500 with built-in bluetooth?)

- I am currently using Sennheiser wired earphones of 20€. Will the audio quality of a bluetooth headphone be (noticibly) worse than that of my wired earphones? (because paying 6 times the price for worse quality isn't that funny). I mean, are these usable for listening to music in rather noisy environments (subway) or do they simply prove that it's possible to make them?

- I read the HP headphones lose the connection. Do other brands have the same problem, and is this annoying? (I mean does this happen that often, or only once every 5 hours or usage?)

- I upgraded my Axim X50 to Windows Mobile 5.0. Will I have to revert to Windows Mobile 2003 to be able to use them?

- Last one: Would you buy them? Why would(n't) you?

There are alot of questions to answer.

First the easy ones.

Yes you will have to roll back to 2003se to get the high quality headset profile. (I am replying from my pda so I can't post the link. Just search for broadcomm update which can be applied once you have rolled back).

I use the logitech phones without the adapter on the axim x50v. I cannot listen to streaming podcasts, but everything else - movies and music works fine. The sound is above average but unless you really crank it up you will not totally obliterate outside noise. They are an open headphone. The headband is hard and prone to breaking, but so far I haven't had any trouble.

Mine do not skip or hum. They will beep when the headphone battery gets low, and they breakup when there is interference or you move too far away from the source (about 6 meters).

You can use the adapter and then you can listen to podcasts or attach other bluetooth devices to the pda.

I have also used the logitechs with my stereo system when i don't want to disturb the family.

The logitechs for mp3 do not have any control buttons, just volume up and down.

Would I buy them again. definitely. I would look at some of the other models with more features, but the BT convenience is definitely worth it for me. I use it about an hour and one half every day.

Battery life is short on the pda but i normally only need it to be unplugged for about 2 hours at a time.

Good Luck with your decision.
