This is one of those "hot" topics that always gets a lot of replies. People here are as polarized about this subject as the Linux vs. Windows crowd - sometimes they can get really up-in-arms about it.
Whether you need a screen protector depends on your viewpoint of the device, your finances, the way you use the box and probably a dozen other factors. What it all boils down to, really, is your personal preference.
In my particular situation I have had 4 Pocket PC's over the years. Some of them have done better than others with or without screen protectors. My old E-100 screen scratched pretty easily for some reason (even with the stylus) so I needed to put on a screen protector to prevent any further damage.
OTOH, my iPAQ 1910 and Axim (that I now have) don't seem to be having the same problem. I've been using my Ax for over a year now without a screen protector and the screen looks fine. I use the machine primarily in an office environment, keep it in a case and use
only the stylus with it - and I use the device fairly heavily. I simply take good care of my equipment so a screen protector is not worth it to me. I've tried the hard and soft kind and despite what anyone might tell you, none of them quite gives you the response and clarity as the "naked" screen will.
However, if you are in an environment that has a lot of dust and dirt and/or you tend to goof by using your pen or a pencil on the screen then a screen protector would be a good investment. If I were using it in a warehouse, for example, I'd probably install one.
Another thought - if this is the only device you're ever likely to have (I.E. you won't likely afford another within the next 5 years) then a screen protector would probably be a good idea, too.
It's really your call!
