Screen protector for x50v - really useful?
I'm using a screen protector for my axim, but it's the second time I tried to place it right on the screen and still I have dust-like thingies caught in the screen protector and bubbles I can't remove. In other words, it only causes the display to appear uglier.

Do you all use this protector? Maybe I can use the axim without any scraches appearing with time...?

Appreciate any advise.

I had my last ppc for 2 years. I am a carful but heavy user. The screen looked horrible. There was big wear spots were I would always tap and scratches all over. This happened with the stylist! I always cleaned the screen with a soft cloth. If you only use the Ax once a day, you maybe ok. Otherwise you better get protection.

The first thing I did was but screen protection on my x50v. I tried the Dell protectors - yuck. I am now using Screengaurd. No bubbles, lint free. Others have had very good luck with Boxwave.

What brand of screen protector are you using?

Well I always use one. The best I came across is from WriteShield, it goes on flatly and I don't even realise it's there. The downside is that it's a tad expensive.

I'd say get one, I use the screenguardz, it's about 12 dollars for a pack of 15. I think they work OK, not the best because I have noticed that after 3 months of use, there's a wear spot where I always tap my stylus. Then again, I like to change them often, so I think I'll be changing it every 3 months or so of use.

I'd go with the rest of the advice, get (a good quality) one. I was told to run the shower until the room was steamy, then apply, the steam takes the dustvout of the air, it worked for me

Talking of screen protectors I still smile thinking of the warning on the pack of washable boxwave protectors I got " Remove PDA before washing"

Definitally buy a good screen protector, I wish i remember the name of mine, but i think it was like $12 shipped, and so far, it shows hardly any wear after a year of use, i'd rather have one good protector, then multiple bad ones, I know mine has saved my screen a few times, and it's just nice to know there is something cheap that will get damaged between the expensive screen and the stylus

Thanks.
Well I'm using a less known brand of protector, can't recall the name. It sucks though. The lint is killing me!

I bought the offbrand super cheapies from ebay, because I didn't know if I really needed them or not and I didn't want to waste money.

Honestly, they work great, they look good and they were worth every penny.

YES YES YES! Always use a screen protector. I didn't with my first PDA and the area on the bottom of the screen where the letter recognizer is was horribly scratched up. Avoid the cheap ones, they will look horrible. I bought the Clear Touch Crystal from aximcases.com and it is outstanding. You almost can't even tell it's there.

Definitely use a screen protector. I had a hard time placing them on my screen at first, but found that with practice I could put them on the screen pretty quickly and without many bubbles. I'm using screen protectors I got from Dell, but they scratch easily. I'm going to try the Boxwave next time.

Price being equal, $11 a box, what should I get.

I ordered an Axim 51v last night, this is my first PDA. Dunno which to get. Boxwave or Screenguard.

Curiously, I see a lot of "absolutely - must get" posts.

I've had my x50v for over a year and have no wear or tear on the screen at all. I was afraid any screen protectors would reduce the quality of the screen (or require a brighter screen setting).

But being on my third PDA, I've never used a screen protector and never found it to be a problem. I may be an odd exception (wouldn't be the first time), but I can't imagine how hard you'd have to press on the screen to cause damage.

I guess I must be an "oddball" too. I've been using my Ax for over a year sans screen protector and no problem at all; and I don't just use the thing once-a-day either. I did put one on there for maybe a month - but found that it obscured the screen a bit. I definitely like the crisp look and responsiveness of the uncovered screen.

I dunno ... maybe everybody else is really hard on these devices or something. Now, my old E-100 *did* have problems with scratching so I needed one on it - but the Ax hasn't had any trouble.

I had a Palm IIIxe that I used to make my own screen protectors for out of overhead transparency sheets (cut to fit and slide under screen frame).

Even those homemade jobs were better than the Dell screen protectors I'm currently using on my X51v. I want to get WriteShields but D@mn the price!!!
