It seems that Dell's X51V/X50V doesn't provide audio out through its bottom connector. It is not possible to have a cable has Audio+Video out via bottom connector. Sorry for that.
C.G.
Sure you could...just add in an audio cable that splits off of the main "dongle" (can I say that in puvblic? dongle? hehehe) that goes to the headphone input on top of the axim. Slam bam, audio man!
This thread isn't about advertising the product, yes technically it does do that. But its mainly a discussion about what changes and customizations we would like to see in the cable. No one would complain if Dell posted specs about the next Axim and asked everyone to tell them what they think of it and what changes they would suggest.
I don't like all these rules, I especially don't like that the rules don't seem to apply to everyone. Iether delete every reference on this site to a product being sold elsewhere. Or leave it be, deleting one and not the other is no good.
Its up to the moderators to delete a post or not. My question is if the moderators are moderating us, who is moderating the moderators? Maybe the moderator who keeps deleting your thread is working for Chrismax, trying to keep the competition out.
Hey route185, any word on the progress of the cable? Hows that S-Video chip looking?
Hi Corny,
The problem of demo board hasn't been fixed yet. In the meanwhile, we also survey other vendors. But most chips are new design with a processor embedded which usually comes with more than 100 pins. They may need extra memory and draw more current. More components means a bigger size of the PCB.
So we will focus on Ad724 for now, it is only 16 pins and draw not too much current. I will post the picture of demo board from ADI then people might have some idea to reduce its size. But the first thing is that we have to get it work.
We now have a question. How many cables will Axim site users need ? We wonder if we make this cable with VGA out ,DC plug, USB sync, S-out and composite out. How many people will buy it ? As you know, we have to spend money when developing new function. If we sell our current cable with a converter box, we will spend nothing more. That's not what we want. What we want is a cable that has everything. Is there any way to know how many people will buy this all-in-one cable ? We don't expect to make money but at least it should be close to balance our investment.
I am looking for a cable to connect my AXIM 51v to a projector so I can show powerpoint presentations. Will your cable do this and if so, what would the set up too like (ie, pc needed powere etc) If not where else could I go to get one (I am in the UK BTW)

Post here or PM me please

Hi there,
This cable is suitable for your application. It can show power presentation and anything you want. It only needs x51v + VGA presentation cable + a powered projector or monitor. That's all. You may take a look at http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=115621

route185: If you had made your cable faster than chrismax, I would have definitely purchased it. Though if it looks sleek and portable, I might just buy it anyway. Also, if I could make a design suggestion... I would suggest you build the whole thing into a Dell cradle, and require only one power source (either USB or AC/DC) and have all the connectors (S-video out, video out, VGA out , AC/DC, and USB in the back) then I would definitely buy it. If you saw my review of chrismax's cable, you'll notice how bad all the wires looked.

route185, if it was designed anything along these lines, anyone out there would buy one especially for the cleaner approach with less wires.
3" inches wide by 2.6" long is the "box portion" that would have most of the connectors,
I made this using 3dsmax 7 in case anyone is wondering. I just thought if I can show what a cool mega cable would look like, someone may make one! What do you think route185?
Thats almost the type of cable I'm looking for but whats with the red and white RCA outputs. Red and White RCA outputs carry the left and right audio channel. Our Axims dont output audio through the bottom connector.
You should change it to just one yellow rca video output to go along with the S-Video, VGA, USB and power connector. I also dont really care if it comes with the yellow video output. If anyone really needs one, s-video to video adaptors are only a couple dollars at your local surplus store. I have about 4 of these myself.
I'd also prefer the power connector to attach to the hub with all the other connectors. I'd like the part that clips to the Axim to be as small as possible.
route185 if you can make a cable similiar to this, I will buy it without a doubt. My roomate would most likely buy one as well. If you looking to maximize your profit, you should also look into making a version of this cable for any other pocket pc with vga output. The only thing that you would have to change is the connector to the pocket pc.
So does anyone know of any other popular pocket pcs with vga output capability like our axim x50v\51v?

If you use the AD724, you will need to have someone write a piece of software that will change the scan rate of the video output of the X50v. The AD724 only combines the video and sync signals. The output of the X50v is not compatable with NTSC TV standards. Unless you can modify the registers in the X50v's video chip to change the horz & vert sync rate, the AD724 won't help you. These webpages have sample circuits that are driven from a PC VGA output. http://pwp.netcabo.pt/pscoelho/vgatv.../LC-AD724.html and http://www.tkk.fi/Misc/Electronics/c...a2palntsc.html
You still need to modify the scan rates from the VGA card to use these interfaces.

3" inches wide by 2.6" long is the "box portion" that would have most of the connectors, I think maybe rising the VGA out would give more room for the board required to do teh S-Video out properly.

that's..... There is no hardware support in x5*v, the transfer chip will heat up the cable, also it will cost a lot. And with the dell rumor floating around,
we will wait and see what's the next generation looks like. we decided to make the conver box because it can work for other vga output device, not only for x5*v serial.
For later on, x51v may become y62w. With coverter box, you don't have to change the whole cable design.

It was late when I designed this, I am going to revise the graphic. I have no idea why I put red and white composite jacks in the diagram! Switching to yellow!

I am starting a new thread based on 2 new renders of this cable. This should help give some feed back about what the demend is for 2 different types of cables. Hopefully then, people who are talented enough can create one. I really want a cable like this, I hate the idea of lugging around a converter box to go from VGA to S-Video. Less wires equals clean and sweet looking.

Hi,
That's what we try to do. Put everything in the back. Then power , USB and VGA signals are all together. They may have chance to interfere with each other. We have to test it to see if it will work.
