we will wait and see what's the next generation looks like. we decided to make the conver box because it can work for other vga output device, not only for x5*v serial.

For later on, x51v may become y62w. With coverter box, you don't have to change the whole cable design.
You are right. It does cost a lot to develop this new cable. The chip and components will heat up the cable but it will be limted to the VGA connector side. AD724 is a low power chip(44 mA). It should be OK.
If this new cable is made, it only have to change pin out to fit new coming models(if they have same functions). Besides, for the new models, probably need to make new cables anyway if Dell replace current connector or change pin out.

Just confirmed with ADI FAE today. AD724 only supports 320x240 at 60Hz. That's why we have problem in showing 640x480 resolution. Ad724 can't be used with X51V. We are looking for new chip that has at least 1024X 768 at 60 or 75Hz or even 1280x 1024 resolution for this application. Sorry about that.
