I will add to this thread since it is very important that this cable be created.
This is a very important subject. Basically anyone can use a VGA-S-Video converter box (dc in powered) to get a signal out to their TV's, in comniation with the VGA cable from Dell or others.
No one has yet made a cable that does the the following:
VGA out, Sync USB, DC-in (power) and also have an S-Video jack.
Please, if you do make this cable, make it a MEGA cable. Yes of course the end is going to be somewhat bulky, but it easily beats having a converter box that needs a second power source.
I have a converter box at home, and it's good for leaving attached to the TV. But when I'm on the go, I want 1 cable and one power source.
This power source (DC-in) would feed the Axim and the VGA-S-Video converter the power they need. Anyone knows that to run a divx movie without lag, the Axim needs to be running at 624 Mhz, (Axim screen disabled) at least in most of my tests.
Sure you can have a USB power the Axim, which is good except you are still relying on the need for
A. Another cable
B. A computer to attach the USB cable to
If I want to hook the Axim up to a TV set, right away, I am not going to ask someone if I can borrow their laptop, to feed my USB to keep the setup going. There is just no appeal in that. I may as well haul the converter box with me to save the trouble.
If there can be a MEGA cable that does the above, that needs only 1 power source cable, you will easily sell ALOT of these MEGA cables. There is geek appeal, business appeal, ease of use, and setup appeal.
Just imagine the versatility and universal functionality of such a MEGA cable.
Another note, if you want to add AV jacks to the cable, then do so, (I don't care if it does, and wouldn't buy one based on that option alone) but I think that is getting far too complex, and supporting such an ancient format is overkill. Anyone can buy a S-Video to AV cable for very little $ to have that option.
Make a solution that is innovative and has a unique touch to it, and it will sell. It's just pure business sense.
Possibly you may have to add a second DC-in to power the VGA-S-Video portion (I pray you don't). But if you do, make available an adapter that has 2 jacks on it, one for the Axim, the other for the VGA-S-Video. Maybe an adapter like this already exists then you wouldn't have to make one at all!
I really hope you or someone, or any company designs a MEGA cable (with a fat bulky end) that can do any of this. It could be easily cross designed to work with any other Pocket PC's from other vendors that do VGA out. And you would be known and established as the MEGA cable authority with experience and quality on your side!
A cable like this would easily sell for $50 US because of its all in one functionality. Just make sure it works good and make some $$$
