Best charge and sync cables?
I'm looking at what cable to order for my Axim X51v. I currently use a Belkin 3 in 1 for my X5 but I was wondering if there is something better out there. I don't necessarily like the fact that I have a seperate wall plug and then a seperate car plug. I'm always losing them because they are seperate. Is there anything that has all three in one self contained unit? I noticed there is one by Boxwave but I couldn't tell if it would work with the Axim x51v. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks for the help... now if I could just find one for less than $30 (including shipping). That just seems way to expensive.

While on the subject, is there a definitive list of the cables that will sync and charge simultaneously. The Belkin 3 in 1 will. In other words, when you are plugged into the wall charger, or even directly into the usb port on an active computer, it will charge even when the pda is on.

Other cables do one or the other but not both at the same time. The pda must be off for the unit to charge.

Ideally looking for a more compact version that can do both.

Been searching high and low
I've done a ton of research the last two days and it seems to me that the boxwave versacharger couples with about any cable is a good combo. I've looked mainly at retractable cables because I hate all of these damn wires everywhere and you can find a number of cables like that for around $6 to $10, you don't have to pay the $20 or $30 that Boxwave wants for theirs. I think I read that some people had syncing problems with their boxwave multi-sync retractable cable as well so that may not be the way to go.

I've been looking at the retractable cables as well, but they are the ones I have had trouble with, some do not sync and power at the same time. If you find one that does, let us know or PM. TIA

I've seen some that do power and charge but they use that silly dongle since it's just a retractable USB cable.

I have a usb retractable that I'm thinking of chopping up and using the adaptor from a bad AA battery extender.

I don't see why they can't just make them power up and charge at the same time. will have to look at my belkin cable to get the wiring right.

power and sync....
The boxwave says it does both, proporta.com has one that does it as well... http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05...277&t_mode=des
The lilsync cable does it as well http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~un...table+sync.htm
I just found about 10 different brands that say they sync and power. It seems most of them do it. I found one last night that has a switch that turns the syncing on and off and has a light that tells you what it is currently doing, can't seem to find it now though. By the way... I ordered my Axim X51v last night with the 3 yr. protection on it. Only $420 plus a little bit of tax. I can hardly wait!!

The problem I find is that so many of them won't charge unless the axim is off (in standby)

Quote:
from expansys:

Note: Due to the power requirements of the X50, and technical issues resulting from this, the cable only charges the the Dell Axim X50 when the unit is switched off.

from ppctech:
Note: The unit charges when the unit's power is off.

from pc-mobile.net:
important note: X50 is charged only when it is off. Power is cut off when the X50 is on (in use)

Musicman5150 and all,
Congrats on your new X51v that's on the way! Just to clear up any confusion, BoxWave's miniSync for the X51v will both sync and charge your X51v, even when turned on. You can find the cable here:
http://www.boxwave.com/products/mini...m-x51v_747.htm

Secondly, I know you're asking about the VersaCharger and the compatibility with the X51v. Unfortunately, it is not. The "power-hungry-ness" of the X51v is too much for the current version of the VersaCharger to keep up with. We at BoxWave hope to have an update version of the VersaCharger in the near future to be able to keep up with the X51v and other "power-hungry" devices that are being released these days. So, please check back at www.boxwave.com for updates!

Best Regards,
Abe

DeeCee52,

Right now there isn't a time frame that I can release because we're still in the developmental process. Sorry, that's not much help. Just keep your eyes out, I guess. We'll keep you guys updated once we have some concrete info.

Cheers,
Abe
