Seagate OEM vs Retail CF drive FAQ

I just found the FAQ page on the Seagate website that talks about their CF microdrives. There has been much talk in the Aximsite forums about these drives as well. Of course, when Geeks.com started selling a Seagate 5GB MD for $99, I started to investigate rather than get burned.
If you look at the bottom of the Seagate FAQ page http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/di...to_cf_faq.html they have a picture of both their OEM and their retail drives. It appears that Geeks.com is actually selling an OEM drive, even though they state "It works in every device that accepts Type II CompactFlash cards!" but Seagate states they don't guarantee this.
And of course, some Aximsite members have found that these drives don't necessarily work in the X50. So, buyer beware.

Geeks 5 GB Doesn't work

Count me as one of those that got burned by the Geeks.com 5 GB drive. I ordered it and it Did NOT work in by X50v.

Wish I knew that beforehand...

Aximsitex50icon Seagate 8GB Drive

Ordered a CF (ORANGE) SEAGATE Photo Drive from www.advancedmp3players.co.uk (pictured orange photo drive on their website).

Received the order promptly, but the arrived was a CF (WHITE) SEAGATE 8 GB ST1.2 Drive (For Embedded Application Only) instead and it is not recognised by my AXIM.

Seagate have confirmed that it is an OEM.

Buyers BEWARE:exc: .

Guess I would take this issue up with my credit card company to stop payment if they will not supply what was pictured (and will work with the Axim).

There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the page that says the picture shown is for 'illustration' purposes only and that the unit is OEM.

If that was not on the page when you ordered it, you should get all your money back.

Aximsitex50icon SEAGATE 8 GB ST1.2 Drive

Hi, Thanks for that,

They added the disclaimer this morning in response to my complaints and in fairness they have said sorry. They say they will try and replace it with the correct one but if unavailable then a refund will be made.

The pity is, that I actually want a photo drive but they seem to be very scarce in the UK. Maybe I will just have to buy a 4gb CF card instead.

I just spoke with Dell and they said that a 2 GB CF card is the maximum size that will work with the X51. Can anyone confirm this?

I think all of us with here with cf cards and mini drives greater than 4GB can confirm that the person you spoke to is most definitely wrong!
