Dell Axim Presentation Mega Cable Images

Okay so heres where we start. Dell makes a simple VGA out cable. Cute, but didn't let you sync with you computer at the same time. To this day no one has made a cable/box all-in-one accessory with very little wire usage. I can very easily take my scan converter box with me, and its power adapter with my VGA cable and my power adapter for my Axim and drag the whole hellish mess with me (looking like a total loser at the same time) in order to play video out to a TV that only has S-Video. But I and others don't want to.

A clean, simple unit that minimizes cable usage would not only be much more appealing, it would have many applications, video for your home (plasma or LCD TV's), an extra computer attached to the same or another monitor (Getting it's internet through the USB Sync cable), projectors, VCR hookup and even video screens for vehicles, just to name a few interest groups that would use this kind of cable.

Look at these 2 versions of how a all-in-one cable could look like.

Now thats sweet. Personally, I would only want the VGA, S-Video cable, I have no need for the composite video one. But if I could pick between the 2 for purchase, I would probably buy the one with composite, just for the sake of having it. (Maybe I would use it from time to time)

Please Axim users, give your feed back on which cable you would prefer! How much would you pay for this sort of cable?

Please inventors of Axim accessories make a cable like this or similar! No extra converter boxes or adapters please. What would be extra sweet, is if you could use the VGA out without needing an adapter, just like how the Dell one works. Just for quick presentations using projectors etc.

Also don't put ebay links in this thread for some reason people delete threads sometimes when they have those.

Good job !

3" x 2.6" is huge for the box portion. Hope we will not make it that big.

I made it that big on purpose to give it room for whtever size board will need to go inside it. I hope it doesn't go that big either, but I would buy it reguardless. The cord is 18" long which is not too short, but also not too ugly long. (But anyone who makes this cable could offer shorter ones or longer ones) Simplicity is what works best here.

By the way, I did actually measure the VGA, comp and S-Video jacks to a good degree of acurracy so that the visual design diagram would be fairly accurate as to how big the jacks are in relation to eachother.

Also remember that this cable, after it is made, will be adaptable to any future Smartphones or PDA's that Dell may make if they include VGA-Out in any capacity. There will always be a demand for a cable system like this. Just re-configure it for the given hardware and you got a good product family going.

Some people would buy one for their family room, car, pda travel kit and maybe even bedroom. There is so much potential for a cable like this if it does the following:

1. Work very well with sharp, centered, non-distorted image.

2. Does not need extra cables or converter boxes.

But cable creators like chrismax and route185 need feedback on how much demand there is for a cable like this.

Axim users speak up!

Huh? Still no serial interface
Thinking about this, why not just build a mega cradle with all the interfaces - and no cables in between.
That way, you would only need to sit the PDA into the cradle and be connected. Have all the connectors come out the back to make it neat.

Hi Crony,

It seems that the demand of this cable is quite a few. Maybe it is just about 10 or 20 people need this mega cable. In that case, a converter(VGA to TV) box will be more easily to fulfill people's need.

Very sad indeed. The thought of having to pack a converter box in order to play video onto a TV is not only depressing, it's just plain ugly as sin. Oh well, glad LCD and Plasma TV's are the new standard, and they always have VGA ports. Guess I am limited to showing off the video to people that are on the cutting edge in their living rooms.

Can you imagine if pocket pc's from the start had VGA-out and the Mega cable. If it had been marketed the right way it would have easily had quite a nice marketshare of portable multimedia devices.

People will never know that pocket pc's could have keyboards, mouses and the above. So sad. Most people think that the iPod is the most revolutionary device ever. Thank you for your consideration of the project though.

Possibly chrismax will make a newer version of his cable that uses my images as a basis for design. Either way, ANY future devices that do VGA out would be a prime candidate for this kind of cable. Just change the connector/pinout and voltage stuff and bingo you now provide a multimedia powerhouse for a new family of products.

I just hope any new Dell Axim/Smartphones still do VGA out in the future. I would easily buy 3 of these mega cables (if they existed) One for the office, one for the home, and one packed with my Axim kit (spare batteries, headphones, SD cards).

I am sure that even if chrismax isn't currently making the Mega Cable, he would be considering it. Especially from a design/esthetics/future device perspective.
